The Impact You'll Make in this Role As a Finance Director of the Industrial Specialty and Industrial Mineral Products Division (ISD), you will work as a key member of the business team. The division is comprised of six distinct businesses, each with a unique business model (direct, channel, converter, MRA, OEM partnerships), customer base, geographic footprint, and strategic objectives. Because the division operates as six global segments, the role allows for a high degree of leadership and interaction across portfolios.
In this strategic role, you will collaborate with the Operating Committee to drive a culture of performance and continuous improvement, shaping operational strategies that align with both short-term and long-term objectives. This role also includes significant engagement with the Enterprise Supply Chain and Planning organizations and the 30 plants in which ISD operates. Here, you will make an impact by:
- Partnering with the Division President as part of the operating committee.
- Providing insightful counsel and analysis, helping to develop and execute multi-year growth investment strategies.
- Creating a global view coordinating the complexities of supply, demand, and timing of capacity to help define near, mid, and long-term understanding and action plans.
- Representing not only the division, but also the Safety Industrial and Business Group and company priorities.
- Working with the business leaders to navigate the various process and value streams that come together to maximize value in a dynamic environment.
- Interacting with customers and channel partners for an external view and to convey the value creation offerings of our products and portfolio.
- Actively participating in the portfolio prioritization efforts and new product introductions.
- Providing ongoing business performance assessment and drive necessary business redirection, when appropriate.
- Conducting return on investment analysis and drive investment decision making for short, medium- and long-term investment opportunities.
- Partnering with business group functions to develop market and competitor knowledge to drive Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) for the business.
- Ensuring that success is achieved through the utmost ethical and legal means.
- Developing talent both in and out of finance.
Your Skills and Expertise To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Business Administration, Economics, Engineering, Finance, or Accounting (completed and verified prior to start).
- Ten (10) years of Finance, Economics, Engineering, or Accounting experience in a private, public, government or military environment.
- Five (5) years of leadership experience.
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
- Strong financial acumen - ability to translate complex business problems into financial terms
- Prior experience in Manufacturing Finance / Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) management
- Strong experience influencing across all levels of an organization
- Solid understanding of multiple work streams and how they come together
- Solid business knowledge and acumen as well as strategic thinking mindset
- Creative problem solving - ability to work with a wide-variety of functional teams to evaluate and address key issues
- Risk management analysis skills
- Self-starter with ability to drive change while navigating complexity
- Track record of challenging the status quo and driving change management
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills
- Demonstrated ability to develop talent, not just in direct reporting line
Work location:
This role follows an on-site working model, requiring the employee to work at least four days a week at the 3M Center in Maplewood, MN.
