ALLETE is seeking a strategic government affairs leader to develop and execute legislative and regulatory strategies that advance business objectives, influence public policy, and protect stakeholder interests across local, state, and federal jurisdictions. This position leads government relations, lobbying compliance, PAC activities, issue management, and stakeholder engagement while serving as ALLETE's primary liaison with policy makers throughout Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Montana, Washington, D.C., and other regions where the company operates or has strategic interests.
What You'll Do
- Develop and execute legislative and regulatory strategies that advance ALLETE's business objectives, influence public policy, and protect stakeholder interests across local, state, and federal jurisdictions.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with elected and appointed officials, industry partners, and key stakeholders while serving as a trusted advocate for the Company's positions and priorities.
- Lead government relations, lobbying compliance, PAC activities, policy analysis, and issue management, ensuring compliance with all state and federal reporting requirements.
- Provide leadership and direction to the government affairs team, consultants, and contractors while serving as a strategic advisor to Company leadership on emerging legislative and regulatory issues.
- Manage government affairs activities across Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Montana, Washington, D.C., and other regions where ALLETE operates or has strategic interests; maintain a valid driver's license and travel as needed, including regular trips between St. Paul and Duluth.
What You'll Bring
- Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution AND
- Twelve or more years of experience in government affairs, public policy, regulatory affairs, or a related field, including substantial experience working with local, state, and/or federal government processes.

- Proven ability to build and sustain credibility with policymakers and stakeholders while aligning government affairs efforts with business strategy.
- Proven success managing government affairs strategies and stakeholder engagement across multiple jurisdictions, including Minnesota, North Dakota, Wisconsin, Montana, and Washington, D.C.
- Demonstrated success integrating government affairs strategies with utility business priorities, regulatory objectives, and long-term corporate strategy.
- Experience leading government affairs teams, consultants, and contract lobbyists while serving as a strategic advisor and identifying key business risks in a rapidly changing environment.

The expected annual compensation range for this position is $156,100 - $195,800. Compensation offered will vary based on knowledge, skills, experience, and market conditions.
