The Research Department of the Minnesota House of Representatives is a nonpartisan office of highly-skilled, creative, and collegial professionals who provide research and legal services to the entire membership of the House of Representatives. The Department is accepting applications for Legislative Analyst position. The position is a regular, full-time opportunity with an anticipated start date in mid-October.

Candidates must have either a Masters Degree or be a licensed attorney, and must have:

• excellent oral and written communication skills
• excellent human relations and teamwork skills
• a flexible, can-do attitude that allows for managing both short- and long-term projects, and shifting work assignments, based on legislative need and as required of the role
• a nonpartisan background

The interview process will include an exercise that allows candidates to demonstrate their writing skills.

The ideal candidate will have:

• experience in communicating legal or public policy information to an audience without such training
• experience in or comfort with attending and participating in public meetings involving legislators and stakeholder groups with diverse experiences and perspectives, including responding to questions and giving presentations in this setting
• experience or demonstrated interest in public policy and government
• knowledge of state government and the legislative process

House Research Department Legislative Analysts are highly-skilled professionals working in diverse disciplines doing complex and sensitive work as nonpartisan analysts in a state legislative setting. Legislative Analysts work independently and in small teams, providing bill and amendment drafting services; attending legislative committee meetings; conducting research and analysis concerning laws and government policies, programs, and finances; creating written publications on topics of legislative interest;

and providing other related staff assistance for House committees and all House members.

For this position, the analyst may work as a generalist on a variety of public policy issues to be determined based on need, likely to include workforce and economic development policy. In addition, the analyst may support the Departments information technology services.

This is a full-time, at-will position that works in person with the possibility of some interim remote work consistent with House policies and Department needs. The House offers a competitive salary and opportunities for ongoing professional development. Starting classification and annual salary commensurate with relevant experience. Legislative Analyst I - IV range $85,925.76 - $. The starting salary range for an entry-level Legislative Analyst I is generally between $85,925.76 and $94,518.24, depending on relevant experience.

Salary/Compensation: $85,926 - $226,447 per year
