Planning and Economic Development Supervisor

The City of Saint Paul's Department of Planning and Economic Development is hiring a Business Solutions Supervisor. This position is a highly visible, public facing position that serves as a key point of contact for the local business community and policymakers while overseeing a team of City employees that serve as business navigators. Maintaining a regular presence in the community, building relationships, and engaging directly with businesses are essential parts of the role.

This position also provides operational leadership, oversees complex economic development initiatives, and supports departmental strategic priorities.

The anticipated starting salary range for this position is $109,000–$119,000 annually.

Here's what you can expect to do:

• Build strong relationships with the business community and associations including Saint Paul Area Chamber, Business Owners Managers Association, St. Paul Port Authority and local business chambers, and representing the City in public settings.
• Supervise an assigned team, including planning and assigning work, managing performance, developing employees, hiring staff, and addressing performance or disciplinary matters.
• Lead complex business services and economic development initiatives involving business outreach, zoning, planning, licensing, funding programs, and real estate transactions.
• Serve as an expert resource and navigator for businesses, connecting them with appropriate City departments, programs, resources, and external partners.
• Develop and monitor program budgets, reporting and compliance requirements, performance measures, and program outcomes.
• Translate departmental priorities into actionable work plans and provide reports, presentations, project proposals, and policy recommendations to department leadership, stakeholders, and elected officials.
