The Longitudinal Follow Up Student position exists as part of the longitudinal follow up (LFU) unit to assist in conducting longitudinal surveillance activities for Newborn Screening (NBS) conditions, including congenital cytomegalovirus (cCMV), critical congenital heart disease (CCHD), heritable conditions (HC), and hearing loss. Longitudinal surveillance is necessary to advance public health understanding of NBS outcomes, describe illness and sequelae, identify risk factors, better understand barriers to care, and identify potential areas for interventions to support families.

This position will assist LFU staff in data collection by requesting and abstracting medical charts, ensuring accurate and timely data entry, assisting in data cleaning, data management, and data analysis activities and other surveillance and longitudinal follow-up activities as needed.

This position is part-time and can work up to 20 hours per week. The specific hours and days of work are flexible within 8 a.m.

- 4:30 p.m. Monday - Friday. This position is anticipated to last through September 1, 2027, or until the selected candidate completes their educational program, whichever occurs sooner.

  • Completion of two years of post-secondary education

Student Worker Eligibility:
To be eligible for appointment as a Student Worker Paraprofessional Senior you must be enrolled in a post-secondary or graduate program or plan to enroll within three months. Students may be "off" for the summer or for one semester/quarter and remain employed as a student worker, but such absences cannot exceed one semester/quarter in a year. If you are enrolled at a credit-granting institution you must carry at least six semester/nine quarter credits.

If enrolled at a non-credit granting institution or one that only offers one credit per class, you must be taking two or more classes per semester/quarter. Any lesser credit (class) load will be treated as a semester/quarter off. Graduate students must be enrolled in at least two courses or making progress on a dissertation. You will be asked to complete an Educational Verification form prior to appointment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree with current registration in either a masters or doctoral program in epidemiology, maternal and child health, environmental health, or related public health or nursing/medical field.
  • Career goals in public health field – maternal and child health, epidemiology, or related field
  • Ability to work collaboratively and develop and maintain effective interpersonal relations with co-workers, supervisors, and health care professionals.
