Location: St Paul

Medical Technologists / Medical Laboratory Technicians

Location: IHS Hospital in Red Lake, MN

Hourly Rate: $40 + $31.15 Travel Stipends

Schedule: 40 hours per week. Shifts may vary during hours of operation.

Contract Length: 1 year with the option to extend

Benefits: $5.09 per hour for Health and Welfare, PTO, sick leave accrued 56 hours per year, and holiday pay.

Job Description:

The Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Technician provides comprehensive laboratory services, including specimen collection, testing, analysis, and reporting for pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. This role ensures accurate laboratory results while maintaining compliance with IHS policies, accreditation standards, and federal regulations.

Requirements:

  • Valid ASCP certification
  • Current BLS certification
  • Minimum one (1) year of specialized experience performing.
  • Phlebotomy and specimen collection.
  • Specimen accessioning and preparation.
  • Laboratory testing and resulting in a clinical laboratory or medical center setting
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory procedures, safety standards, and infection control practices
  • Professional knowledge of medical terminology, microbiology, chemistry, physiology, and anatomy

Responsibilities:

  • Collect, process, and prepare laboratory specimens for testing or referral
  • Perform routine and specialized testing in microbiology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis, and serology
  • Conduct and monitor quality control procedures; troubleshoot and resolve QC issues
  • Perform preventative maintenance and basic troubleshooting on laboratory instruments
  • Participate in proficiency testing and quality assurance programs
  • Maintain laboratory safety standards and infection control compliance
  • Accurately interpret, evaluate, and report laboratory test results
  • Maintain laboratory documentation and reports
  • Order and maintain laboratory supplies
  • Ensure laboratory areas remain clean, organized, and safe
  • Provide professional and respectful service to patients and colleagues
  • Perform other related duties as assigned
