Data Engineer; Hybrid

Position Summary

Securian Financial is looking for a curious and motivated Data Engineer who’s excited to use data and technology to solve meaningful business problems. In this role, you’ll design, build, and optimize scalable data pipelines that enable artificial intelligence, advanced analytics, and other enterprise use cases, while helping evolve data architecture and patterns to meet changing needs.

You’ll collaborate closely with data scientists, machine learning engineers, product managers, technology teams, and business partners to deliver trusted, secure, and accessible data solutions. Along the way, you’ll apply strong data governance practices, mentor teammates, and continue growing your skills in a fast-moving data and analytics environment—all while turning data into outcomes that drive real business value.

• Design, build and optimize data pipelines and transformations enabling Artificial Intelligence, advanced analytics, and other enterprise use cases.
• Research, recommend, implement, and drive changes to evolve architecture and patterns to meet quickly changing data requirements.
• Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, machine learning engineers, technology teams and other stakeholders to understand requirements, prioritize tasks, and deliver data solutions that excite stakeholders and deliver business value.
• Mentor and consult with team members and other areas to ensure best practices and optimal data solutions are implemented.
• Leverage data governance and data security tooling, processes, and principles to ensure data is secure, easy to find, trusted, and accessible.
• Devise technical solutions to drive business outcomes based on an understanding of customers, business processes and technical requirements.

• 4 year degree in Computer Science, related field, or equivalent industry experience.
• 2+ years of hands‑on, professional experience working in Data Engineering.

• Experience with tools and concepts related to data and analytics, such as ETL, data storage options, data quality, working with structured and unstructured data.
• ANSI SQL Skills/Experience
• Cloud knowledge and experience – AWS and Snowflake preferred
• Programming experience - Python or Java preferred.
