Salary Range: $39.73 - $67.92 hourly; $82,956 - $141,816 annually

Job Summary

The Public Employees Retirement Association (PERA) provides a lifetime income retirement plan for Minnesota public employees. The Senior Database Administrator will lead PERA’s database functions, provide technical guidance to teams, and participate in the PERA IT Strategic Team.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, direct, and manage PERA’s database functions.
  • Provide technical guidance to Database Administrator (ITS3) and to software and network teams on database‑related solutions and recommendations.
  • Serve on the PERA IT Strategic Team to drive technology strategy.
  • Maintain and improve database performance, availability, scalability, and security.
  • Develop and implement business continuity and data disaster recovery plans.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design data solutions.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Five (5) years of experience working with SQL Server in production environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server DBA tools (Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler, SQL Code).
  • Experience with business continuity operations and data disaster recovery planning.
  • Experience with database security, diagnostic tools, and maintenance.
  • Experience designing data solutions for high availability and scalability.
  • Ability to work independently and within a team in a deadline‑driven environment.
  • Commitment to a respectful, inclusive, and diverse work environment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or Management Information Systems.
  • Experience in cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Experience with Always On Availability Groups.
  • Experience with network port behaviors, TCP/IP protocols, .NET high‑level architecture, Service Desk/Help Desk handling, and data structure fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of operational data stores, data warehousing, ETL, business intelligence, and analytics.
Additional Employment Requirements

All employees submit to a background investigation prior to employment. The background check may include SEMA4 Records Check (current or past State employees), Criminal History Check, Employment Reference Check, Social Security and Address Verification, Education Verification, and Driver’s License Check. The Retirement Systems will not sponsor work visas. Applicants must be legally authorized to work in the U.S.

Telework Eligibility

Candidates residing in Minnesota within 50 miles of the St. Paul office may be eligible to telework up to 50%. Candidates residing in Minnesota more than 50 miles from the office may be eligible to telework more than 50%. Candidates residing in a bordering state within 50 miles of the office may be eligible to telework up to 50%. Candidates who do not reside in Minnesota or within 50 miles of the office in a bordering state are not eligible to be hired unless planning to relocate within 50 miles of the office or report to the office full time.
