Location:
Saint Paul, Minnesota Job Type: Contract Compensation Range: $60 - 67 per hour
We are looking for a passionate and strategic User Experience (UX) Consultant to help shape meaningful, consistent, and intuitive experiences across complex products and end-to-end customer journeys. In this role, you will bring together user research, interaction design, UI design, prototyping, and service design to create experiences that meet customer needs while supporting business and technology goals.
As a UX Consultant, you will advocate for customers, channel partners, and associates throughout the product lifecycle-from strategic planning and discovery through development, launch, and continuous optimization. You will translate research and insights into journey maps, wireframes, high-fidelity designs, prototypes, and interaction specifications, ensuring that experiences are cohesive across digital and cross-channel touchpoints.
Working closely with cross-functional business and technology teams in an agile environment, you will influence design decisions, connect digital experiences to the broader service journey, and help establish consistent UX practices across the enterprise. This is an opportunity to solve complex problems, simplify experiences, and make a measurable impact at scale while also supporting and mentoring less-experienced UX professionals.
Responsibilities:
Expert proficiency across UX research, interaction/UI design, and service design tools, techniques, and methodologies; in-depth knowledge of agile methodologies and development techniques.
Researches and implements new or trending tools and methods that improve research, design, or service delivery, and mentors others on them.
Is a trusted steward of digital standards - utilizes and promotes the Design Standards Guide (DSG), partnering with Brand/Creative, Engineering, and Enterprise Architecture when appropriate.
Champions user research, service design thinking, and user-centered design practices across the org.
Communication and stakeholder/peer management Communicates with varying levels of the organization, tailoring the message to the audience.
Uses storytelling - research findings, journey maps, prototypes - to engage and move stakeholders from analysis to decision-making.
Builds trust and maintains relationships across product, engineering, and business stakeholders.
May assist less experienced associates in preparing presentations and communicating effectively.
Responsibilities Designs digital solutions that adhere to brand/accessibility standards, meet user expectations validated by research, contribute to business outcomes, and account for technical and process constraints.
Designs and documents clear, modern interfaces, interaction patterns, and data visualizations.
Assesses the need for user research (personas, journey maps, task analysis, usability testing) and scopes the work.
Maps end-to-end service journeys across channels, roles, and systems to identify where the experience connects or breaks down.
Leads research, exploration, and testing of digital and service experiences across mobile, tablet, and web, representing customers, channel partners, and associates in product and planning meetings.
Identifies pain points across the interface, the research, and the broader service, and pursues opportunities to resolve them.
Collaborates in an agile environment with product owners, engineers, business analysts, and the broader UX team; presents design ideas, research, and journey maps for review. Ensures UX/UI requirements are implemented correctly through development, via engineering collaboration and timely review.
May gather customer, channel partner, and associate needs for short- and long-term visioning, including service concepts spanning multiple products.
Specific deliverables include Wireframes and high-fidelity UI designs Sitemaps, flow charts, and service blueprints Journey maps and end-to-end service models Interactive prototypes and other research/communication aids May also include: data visualizations, stakeholder presentations, and user research plans/documents.
Qualifications:
5+ years as a UX designer, UI designer, interaction designer, service designer, information architect, or similar role in a user-centered design process.
Strong experience with qualitative research methods (interviewing, usability studies, ethnographic observation).
Experience with UX/UI design tools (e.g., Figma, Figjam).Experience mapping journeys or service blueprints and translating research into interface design.
Working knowledge of behavioral statistics and experimental design principles.
Preferred qualifications Degree in interaction design, UI/UX design, service design, industrial design, graphic design, human factors, or equivalent experience.
Experience in complex enterprise or consumer markets and understanding of diverse users/customers. associates. Opportunity
