Position: Health and Wellness Deputy Director – Correctional Facilities (Unclassified)

The current vacancy is in the Community Corrections department.

This position is the designated Deputy Director responsible for two 24-hour facilities within Community Corrections: the Juvenile Detention Center and the Adult Correctional Facility. This position will focus on planning, organizing, directing, and managing a designated area of the Health and Wellness Service Team facilities in order to lead change, racial equity and reform work, program services, and performance measures of the assigned department, including but not limited to human resource management, department budget and fiscal services, purchase of services and grants administration, staff training, community relations, public and media affairs, department strategic planning, information services, department-wide policies and program planning and analysis and perform related duties as assigned.

May perform duties and responsibilities of the director in their absence.

Flexible Workplace

This position is identified under the designation of ‘flex work eligible’, meaning that the employee can formally opt to be in-office full-time or work a flex schedule in which at least two-days per week are performed in office and other days can be performed in a remote-first environment.   • Establish relationships with individuals and groups in the community for problem-solving, service coordination and mutual goal setting.
  • Establish and sustain robust community empowerment processes and strategies including setting budget priorities and advancing policies and practices that serve all residents.
  • Ensure that resources are used to accomplish needed outcomes and follow laws, rules, regulations, and practice standards.
  • Develop, monitor, and administer a division’s annual staff and fiscal budget to adequately distribute resources required by legal mandate and good management practice.
  • Participate in the development of strategic planning for the department in response to major environmental, financial, and legislative changes, as well as advances in professional knowledge and research, to maintain the efficient and legal management of the department and to identify appropriate process and outcome measures for departmental activities
  • Serve as a department representative during contract negotiations with collective bargaining agreements; research issues and conduct studies prior to negotiations to determine department’s position with respect to negotiations.
  • Serve as liaison with the County Attorney’s Office regarding legal issues or litigation, involving facility residents and probation clients, employees, and the public.
  • Participate in the overall management of the department through involvement in the director’s management group and individual consultation with other deputy directors to ensure consistency with departmental policies and procedures.
