Midwest Area Drinking Water Practice Leader – Brown and Caldwell (BC) is seeking an experienced leader to drive growth within our Midwest Drinking Water Practice. The Area Practice Leader (APL) will spearhead strategic initiatives, oversee major projects, and deliver exceptional client service across the region.
OverviewThe APL works closely with the Regional Practice Lead, Project Managers, Client Service Managers, and Subject Matter Experts to identify market trends, differentiate our technical solutions, and serve as a conduit between the Drinking Water Practice and Business Unit leadership.
Detailed Description- Develop and drive area practice strategy – collaborate with the RPL, Practice, and BU Leaders to analyze market trends, competition, client needs, and opportunities. Align strategy with BU and National Practice objectives and oversee annual business planning for the Area.
- Drive external visibility and brand projection – lead teams to represent BC’s brand in conferences, seminars, workshops, and client positioning meetings. Partner with Growth Leaders and Client Service Managers to showcase our people, projects, and solutions.
- Drive business development – coordinate with RPL, area operations, and client service teams to identify opportunities, recommend technical resources, and increase awareness of solutions tailored to each client.
- Build capacity for quality delivery – assess staffing needs, recruit technical talent, and support talent development aligned with BU strategy. Collaborate on enterprise recruiting as needed.
- Bring technical advantage to sales – participate in go/no‑go decisions, engage appropriate technical resources, identify efficiencies, and inform project org charts to build skills that support future sales and delivery.
- B.S. or M.S. in engineering or a related field (required).
- Professional registration preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressively responsible experience in environmental services, water utility, or consulting (required).
- Outstanding communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences.
- Business acumen to guide decisions on resource allocation and practice growth.
- Experience guiding technical strategy for large project portfolios and aligning differentiators with staffing.
- Up to 30% travel.
The anticipated starting pay range for this position is based on the employee’s primary work location and may be adjusted in the future.
Location B:
Salary $160,000 - $219,000
