Pay Range: $35 – $45/hr
Make Every Hit CountOwn the first moments that define quality. In this senior press set‑up role, you’ll prepare and dial in large stamping presses so production runs launch on time, run safely, and meet exacting customer specs. You’ll also be the go‑to mentor for developing operators and a key partner to production, toolroom, and maintenance.
A Day in Your Steel‑Toed Shoes- Scan dispatch displays to lock in priorities, parts, and the next changeover.
- Study prints, routings, and work instructions to plan the build, sequence, and checkpoints.
- Select, stage, and verify all materials and tooling to eliminate delays at start‑up.
- Mount and align complex tooling—draws, forms, and progressive dies—on large presses.
- Set feeds, speeds, and shut heights; perform first‑article checks and refine until in spec.
- Measure precisely with calipers and micrometers; validate features and dimensions.
- Audit material and finished parts, tag/label correctly, and document traceability.
- Root‑cause press or die issues; coordinate timely fixes with toolroom and maintenance.
- Capture reliable set‑up notes so repeat jobs run consistently and efficiently.
- Enter production and quality data accurately into the company data collection system.
- Coach Level I and II set‑up operators on safe practices, troubleshooting, and efficiency.
- Perform routine mechanical checks and keep a clean, organized, 5S work area.
- Recommend improvements that elevate throughput, safety, and quality.
- Follow established safety procedures and compliance guidelines; take on related duties as needed.
- Expert knowledge of press set‑ups and tooling, especially progressive die stamping.
- Fluency reading complex blueprints and work instructions.
- Independent problem‑solving for press/die issues and strong quality inspection skills.
- Clear communicator who collaborates well across production, maintenance, and tooling.
- Time management that keeps schedules on track and changeovers tight.
- Passion for mentoring and continuous improvement.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
- 3+ years in metal fabrication or closely related work.
- Able to see and hear effectively; includes close, distance, and peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the shift.
- Regular use of hands for handling, reaching, and operating equipment.
- Stamina for repetitive tasks and sustained focus during longer runs.
- Regularly lift up to 25 lbs; occasionally lift up to 50 lbs.
