Job Title:
Cable Assembly Technician

Job Description

This role focuses on building cable assemblies from scratch in a fast-paced cable cell environment using a batching method. You will rotate through multiple workstations such as cutting, stripping, crimping, and soldering wires, working both manually and with small machines. The position includes comprehensive cross-training so you can perform a variety of tasks rather than repeating the same operation every day.

Responsibilities

  • Build cable assemblies from scratch according to blueprints, standard operating procedures, and documented work instructions.

  • Rotate between batching stations, including wire cutting, stripping, crimping, and soldering, to support efficient production flow.

  • Perform wire cutting operations using manual tools or designated machines, ensuring accurate lengths and clean cuts.

  • Strip insulation from wires with hand tools or stripping equipment while maintaining wire integrity and quality standards.

  • Crimp terminals, connectors, and contacts onto wires and cables using appropriate crimping tools and torque wrenches.

  • Perform soldering tasks on cable assemblies once certified, following IPC-610 and IPC-620 standards and company procedures.

  • Complete mechanical and electronic assembly tasks as needed to support overall product builds.

  • Use hand tools, torque wrenches, and other assembly equipment safely and effectively.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, travelers, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to complete work accurately.

  • Follow all documentation requirements, including recording work performed and updating travelers and production records in the computer system.

  • Inspect work visually and with basic measurement tools to verify quality, accuracy, and adherence to specifications.

  • Maintain a high level of attention to detail to ensure reliable cable harnesses and medical-related assemblies.

  • Follow regulated work environment guidelines while working on medical instrument assemblies.

  • Participate in and follow a structured training program, using provided training materials and binders to build skills at each station.

  • Communicate effectively with team members and leadership, accepting in-the-moment feedback to improve performance.

  • Support production needs by working occasional overtime, including some Saturdays or adjusted weekday schedules, as required.

  • Maintain a clean and organized workstation and comply with all ESD and PPE requirements.

Essential Skills

  • Experience with cable and wire work, including wire cutting, stripping, crimping, and cable harness assembly.

  • Ability to perform or learn soldering on cable assemblies in line with IPC-610 and IPC-620 standards.

  • Ability to read and follow blueprints, travelers, and standard operating procedures.

  • Comfort using hand tools, including crimpers, wire strippers, and torque wrenches.

  • Strong attention to detail to ensure high-quality medical-related assemblies.

  • Basic computer skills to follow electronic documentation and record work.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, regulated production environment.

  • Willingness to rotate between multiple workstations and learn all stages of the cable assembly process.

  • Reliability and flexibility to support overtime needs, including occasional Saturdays or adjusted weekday schedules.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • IPC-610 or IPC-620 soldering certification preferred but not required; the company can support obtaining these certifications.

  • Prior experience with medical device or medical assembly environments is a plus.

  • Familiarity with cable harness assembly and related documentation practices is beneficial.

  • Comfort working from detailed travelers and following documented quality processes.

  • Openness to structured training programs that include written training materials and regular feedback.
