Salary Range:
$20.00 To $24.00 Hourly
PurposeUnder limited supervision, the Blaster/Primer Operator is responsible for cleaning, preparing, grit blasting, priming, and painting assigned parts and equipment by operating conventional spray equipment and the PBC Autoblast System. This role ensures products meet quality standards while maintaining a safe and efficient work environment.
Essential ResponsibilitiesReview work orders, primer specifications, and painting requirements with the Lead to ensure understanding of job requirements and workflow.
Retrieve parts and equipment using forklifts, cranes, or trucks.
Prepare work pieces to prevent damage during blasting and priming operations.
Operate the PBC Autoblast System to achieve the required surface finish.
Mix primers and paints to the proper consistency and viscosity.
Assemble and maintain painting equipment, ensuring pumps and paint systems are properly cleaned and connected.
Apply primer using air-assisted spray equipment to achieve required coating thickness and finish quality.
Inspect blasted, primed, and painted parts throughout the process and make equipment adjustments as needed.
Perform minor repairs and routine maintenance on blast and prime booths, spray guns, and related equipment.
Provide guidance and support to less experienced team members as needed.
Accumulate, inspect, label, and handle waste materials in accordance with company and safety standards.
Monitor inventory levels of paints, thinners, reducers, hardeners, and related materials.
Paint racks, trailers, fixtures, tables, pipelines, elbows, maintenance parts, and spare parts.
Utilize barcode scanners and computer systems to track work and inventory.
Perform other duties as assigned.
QualificationsHigh School Diploma or GED required.
2–4 years of experience working with spray equipment, pressure-feed power washers, forklifts, cranes, hand tools, or similar industrial equipment.
Experience with grit blasting, industrial painting, or surface preparation preferred.
Familiarity with computers and handheld barcode scanners.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Physical Requirements & Work EnvironmentMust be able to wear and maintain annual certification for respirator use.
Regular exposure to dust, fumes, coal tar coatings, and other industrial materials.
Work performed on the production floor 100% of the time.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
