Position: Large Punch Press Set-up Operator II

Large Punch Press Set-up Operator III

Location:

St. Paul, MN

A Day in the Life:

• Read and interpret complex blueprints, job routings, and work instructions

• Expertly set up and operate large presses to achieve quality parts and maximum production efficiency

• Set up all types of complex tooling, including draws, forms, and progressive dies

• Stage all required materials so production can begin without delay

• Use dispatch displays to determine job priorities and next setups

• Conduct root cause analysis on die or press issues and coordinate with toolroom and maintenance for repairs

• Recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency, quality, and safety

• Perform precision measurements using calipers, micrometers, and tape measures

• Inspect materials and finished parts for defects and verify compliance with specifications

• Identify and label materials accurately using tags or labels

• Perform routine mechanical maintenance and maintain a clean, organized work area

• Train and mentor Level I and II Set-Up Operators

• Capture and document work instructions to ensure consistent setups and production runs

• Accurately enter production and quality data into the company data collection system

• Follow all established safety procedures and compliance guidelines

• Perform other related duties as assigned

• Have expert-level knowledge of press setups and tooling

• Can read and interpret complex blueprints with confidence

• Are highly detail-oriented with strong inspection and quality skills

• Excel at troubleshooting and resolving press or tooling issues independently

• Manage time effectively to meet production schedules

• Communicate clearly with production, maintenance, and tooling teams

• Enjoy mentoring and supporting the development of less experienced operators

• Prioritize safety, quality, and continuous improvement

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent preferred

• 3+ years of experience in metal fabrication or related work

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to see and hear with vision including close, distance, peripheral, depth perception, and focus adjustment

• Frequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the shift

• Frequent use of hands for handling, reaching, and operating equipment

• Physical stamina to perform repetitive tasks and maintain focus during long shifts

• Ability to regularly lift up to 25 lbs and occasionally lift up to 50 lbs
