Job Summary
The Sheet Metal Fabrication Technician I’s primary job function is to operate equipment and execute processes dedicated to producing quality sheet metal products at Delkor Metalworks. Equipment includes laser, press brake, finishing stations, parts removal, and material moving.
Essential Functions- Interpret and work from detailed shop drawings, blueprints, and custom sketches.
- Set up and operate equipment.
- Work with a safety-first attitude and encourage others to do the same.
- Consistently deliver quality parts to the customer by meeting or exceeding Metalworks’ quality goals.
- Execute operation of assigned equipment, monitor the process closely to ensure accuracy and quality – including starting/stopping the machine, adjusting parameters, and troubleshooting issues.
- Assist with managing raw materials inventory, including receiving, storing, and organizing materials for fabrication jobs.
- Assist and train other technicians as needed or upon request.
- Two-year degree in machining or 2+ years of equivalent experience.
- Minimum of one year of experience setting up and operating CNC machines (preferred).
- Exposure to programming using nesting and/or bend software packages.
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to read and interpret prints.
- Proficient with basic math skills and conversion from imperial to metric system.
- Knowledgeable on basic parts for manufacturing machines.
- Able to troubleshoot and independently problem solve machining issues.
- Well organized with a strong aptitude for detail.
- Able to adapt to a fast‑paced environment.
- Communicates effectively (verbally and non‑verbally) to individuals and groups, internally and externally.
- Works well with a variety of people and personalities.
- Able to maintain a positive work environment in challenging situations.
- Stand and walk for most of the workday.
- Regularly lift up to 50 pounds.
- Able to judge distances and space relationships to successfully complete detailed activities to fine tolerances.
- Communicate effectively via verbal and/or non‑verbal communication in person or using telephone; exchange ideas and convey detailed information to customers, co‑workers, supervisors, vendors, and others.
- Possess arm and hand mobility and strength to lift, hold, reach, carry, push and pull machining parts and related items typically used by Metalworks.
Many job duties are performed on the production floor with exposure to tools, dirt, dust, chemicals, metals, plastics, varying temperatures, construction noises, and odors from the production process.
Tools and Equipment- Use various types of hand tools and stationary equipment typically found in a machining center.
The hourly salary range for this position is $23.00–$36.00 per hour.
