Position: NPD Manufacturing Engineer (New Product Development)

Location: St. Paul, MN (Hybrid 4 Days Onsite)

Duration: 12+ Months

Job Overview

We are seeking an experienced NPD Manufacturing Engineer to support new product development and manufacturing process implementation for electronic assemblies. The ideal candidate will have expertise in PCB assembly (PCBA), SMT manufacturing, Design for Manufacturability (DFM/DFT), process development, and product launch activities
. This role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams to ensure successful product introduction from prototype through production.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead manufacturing engineering activities supporting new product development (NPD) and product launches.
  • Review PCB schematics, layouts, and Gerber files to ensure Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT).
  • Develop, validate, and optimize manufacturing processes for SMT, selective soldering, wave soldering, reflow, AOI, X-ray inspection, conformal coating, and final assembly.
  • Support prototype and pilot builds by troubleshooting manufacturing issues and implementing process improvements.
  • Lead process qualification activities and ensure manufacturing readiness for production.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, including work instructions, BOMs, ECOs, panel layouts, and test procedures.
  • Drive yield improvement, cost reduction, and continuous improvement initiatives across manufacturing operations.
  • Manage engineering projects, schedules, and cross-functional activities to ensure successful product implementation.
  • Collaborate with Hardware, Quality, Test, Supply Chain, and Manufacturing teams to resolve production challenges.
  • Provide technical support and training to manufacturing personnel during product introduction and process changes.
  • Support site goals related to safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or another STEM-related discipline.
  • Experience supporting New Product Development (NPD) in an electronics manufacturing environment.
  • Strong knowledge of PCB Assembly (PCBA) manufacturing processes.
  • Hands-on experience with SMT manufacturing, soldering processes, and electronic assembly.
  • Experience with DFM/DFT, process development, and manufacturing qualification.
  • Strong project management and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Excellent troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong communication and technical documentation skills.
