Job Title:
Cable Assembly Technician
Job Description
This role focuses on building cable assemblies from scratch within a fast-growing cable cell area that uses a batching method for production. You will work across multiple stations to cut, strip, crimp, and solder wires, contributing to the assembly of medical instruments in a clean, well-organized, and regulated manufacturing environment. The position offers thorough training across all stations so you can develop a broad skill set and avoid repetitive, single-task work.
Responsibilities- Build cable assemblies from scratch using established work instructions, blueprints, and standard operating procedures.
- Work in a batching production method, performing cutting, stripping, crimping, or soldering on large batches of wires before passing them to the next station.
- Rotate between multiple stations, including wire cutting, stripping, crimping, and soldering (once certified), to support efficient workflow and production goals.
- Perform mechanical assembly tasks as needed, using hand tools and torque wrenches to assemble components accurately.
- Carry out electronic assembly tasks, ensuring proper handling of components and adherence to quality standards.
- Use hand tools, torque wrenches, and other equipment safely and correctly to complete assembly work.
- Follow blueprints, travelers, documentation, and SOPs to ensure cables and assemblies meet specifications and quality requirements.
- Use computers to access build plans, documentation, and production travelers, and to record work as required.
- Apply strong attention to detail to identify and correct issues in assemblies, wiring, and documentation.
- Perform cable harness work, including wire stripping, wire cutting, and cable crimping according to technical requirements.
- Conduct soldering work in accordance with IPC-610 and IPC-620 standards once appropriate certifications are obtained.
- Maintain accurate documentation of work completed, following all regulatory and quality guidelines for medical instrument manufacturing.
- Adhere to all safety, ESD, and regulatory requirements in the production environment.
- Participate in the new training program, using provided training materials and binder to learn processes and standards.
- Receive and apply in-the-moment feedback from leadership to continuously improve performance and quality.
- Experience working with cables and wires, including cutting, stripping, crimping, and assembly.
- Hands‑on experience with soldering or a strong interest in learning soldering techniques.
- Ability to read and follow blueprints, travelers, documentation, and standard operating procedures.
- Comfort using hand tools and torque wrenches for mechanical and electronic assembly work.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate wiring, assembly, and documentation.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced, batching-style production environment.
- Basic computer skills to access build plans, documentation, and production records.
- Willingness to rotate between different stations and tasks rather than staying at a single station long term.
- Ability to follow regulated work practices associated with building medical instruments.
- Reliability to work a Monday-Friday second shift (3:30 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.) consistently.
Skills & Qualifications
- IPC-610 and IPC-620 soldering certifications are preferred but not required; certification can be obtained through the employer.
- Prior experience in medical assembly or medical device manufacturing is a plus.
- Experience with cable harness assembly, wire stripping, wire cutting, and cable crimping is beneficial.
- Familiarity with documentation practices and travelers in a manufacturing environment.
- Comfort working in a regulated environment that supports…
