Summary:
The Communications and Equity Specialist provides comprehensive support across various school district sites and departments. This position drives both internal and external communication needs through effective print and digital media. The specialist develops and implements district-wide communication strategies, executes targeted programs for diverse audiences, and crafts meaningful messages that connect with the entire school community. Additionally, the employee shares responsibility for creating affirming, inclusive environments while leading the district's inclusion goals through mindful, compassionate communication.
- Lead district-wide strategies to build affirming, inclusive, and welcoming school environments aligned with the Strategic Plan.
- Create press releases, social media posts, communication plans, and newsletter content.
- Assist in covering positive stories at schools and district level, working with building contacts to inform, promote and celebrate our students, staff, schools and district.
- Assist with special-project writings, publications and presentations as assigned including grants, community reports, leadership presentations, and marketing materials.
- Work with building and department leaders in the implementation of aligned culture/climate and inclusion strategies.
- Lead coverage for special and programs when needed.
- Record Board meetings and support other district-wide events.
- Partner with the grants department and assist as needed.
- Lead special projects to amplify student, staff, and family voices.
- Other duties as assigned.
- B.A. degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications or equivalent
- Experience in the marketing or communications field, including media and public relations
- Excellent organizational and project planning capabilities
- Proven ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple projects simultaneously
- Human relation skills and experience working with diverse populations and community organizations inside a public school district or educational service agency
- Strong portfolio demonstrating professional writing, graphic design, and photography skills
- Strong video shooting and editing skills to create short recap videos for social media
- A flexible work schedule to accommodate evening public events or special district programs
- Ability to work with deadlines
- Strong interpersonal skills with a natural ability to connect and collaborate with others
- Passion to work in public education
- Master's degree in marketing, journalism, public relations, communications or equivalent
