Job Title: Shelter Advocate - Women's Shelter

Hours: 2:00 - 10:00 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays

Salary: $19.00 - $20.60 per hour

Reports To: Naomi Family Program Director

UGMTC’s Naomi Family Program (NFP) provides single women or women with child(ren) who are experiencing life challenges with housing, life skills, and spiritual and addiction support in a safe, caring environment. NFP is a 24-hour service facility which has transitional housing rooms and provides temporary shelter for women and children in transition.

POSITION SUMMARY

Under regular supervision, this role assures the efficient and smooth operations of the Naomi Family Program by welcoming and signing guests in and out, ensuring completion of forms, and collecting any fees. This role also provides information to guests about any of UGMTC’S programs, policies, and/or behavioral expectations.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs a wide range of support activities, including answering and directing calls, greeting, and directing visitors, volunteers, and resident guests as well as performing basic office administrative tasks including data entry, mailings, running reports, etc.
  • Provides information regarding all UGMTC programs including mental health and social worker services, and other needs residents may have
  • Collects, records, and processes fees for rooms and coordinates room vacancies.
  • Enters guest and resident information into a database following relevant policies and procedures
  • Responds to security, health, and safety issues within the residential areas as well as any emergency situations
  • Monitors the building and grounds through camera systems as well as by walk-throughs to ensure safety of building and all entrances and exits
  • Documents and maintains accurate information about the activities of program participants
  • Assist case managers with special events and activities and other duties as needed.
  • Supports the Christian values and ethics of UGMTC with residents, staff, volunteers, and the community Participates in UGMTC staff training, employee meetings and other activities
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent work experience
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, poverty, or addiction (preferred)
  • Six months of work experience in a human service environment (preferred)
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including holidays and weekends
  • Requires a minimum of four shifts worked per month
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED
  • Well-developed interpersonal communication and customer service skills to work effectively with a team, as well as in a wide range of constituencies in a culturally diverse community
  • Ability to manage financial transactions accurately and with integrity and honesty
  • Expansive organizational and administrative skills with attention to detail
  • Proficiently skilled with Microsoft Office applications to enter data, track, compile, and report on program statistics
  • Ability to read, understand and follow safety and other instructions and procedures
  • Ability to maintain residents’ confidentiality in accordance with all policies and applicable laws
  • Committed to engaging with and serving the homeless community
  • Familiar with conflict prevention, de‑escalation, and resolution skills, training provided
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT
  • Work is performed in an emergency shelter/transitional housing environment and involves physical effort encountered in normal, everyday transitional residential environments and activities
  • Must be able to lift to 20 pounds consistently, occasionally lifting more than 30 pounds
  • Work requires pushing, pulling, reaching, crouching, depth perception, stooping, walking, twisting, carrying, and other physical activities
  • This position requires satisfactory completion of a criminal background check
