POSITION SUMMARYThe Volunteer Engagement Manager provides strategic and operational leadership for Neighborhood House’s volunteer systems, staff, and engagement infrastructure. Reporting to the Director of Volunteer Engagement and Events, this role is responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving organization-wide volunteer engagement systems.
The Manager supervises the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator and ensures that volunteer recruitment, onboarding, deployment, and retention practices are consistent, equitable, and aligned with organizational priorities. This role translates departmental and organizational goals into clear operational plans and performance benchmarks.
The position centers equity, accessibility, and radical hospitality in all aspects of volunteer management and community engagement.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Volunteer Program Leadership- Develop, implement, and continuously improve organization-wide volunteer recruitment, screening, onboarding, training, placement, and recognition systems.
- Develop and implement strategies to meet annual recruitment, retention, and engagement targets.
- Design scalable volunteer engagement models, including individual, group, corporate, and skills-based opportunities.
- Conduct strategic outreach and relationship-building efforts with community and corporate partners.
- Regularly assess organizational volunteer capacity and recommend programmatic or structural adjustments.
- Ensure volunteer roles are clearly defined, accessible, and aligned with program and participant outcomes.
- Manage standards and systems for volunteer scheduling, deployment, and coverage; monitor implementation and work with the director to adjust strategies as needed.
- Develop, maintain, and execute standardized volunteer policies, procedures, and training materials.
- Ensure consistent implementation of background checks, agreements, and compliance protocols.
- Oversee implementation and optimization of volunteer management platforms and related tools.
- Ensure confidentiality, safety, and risk management standards are upheld.
- Translate organizational and departmental volunteer engagement goals into annual work plans and measurable performance benchmarks.
- Establish clear expectations, accountability systems, and workflow priorities for volunteer engagement functions.
- Supervise, coach, and evaluate the Volunteer Engagement Coordinator, including setting goals, conducting performance reviews, and developing professional development plans.
- Provide regular coaching, guidance, and corrective feedback to support staff effectiveness and growth.
- Foster a collaborative, inclusive, and mission-centered team culture aligned with Neighborhood House values.
- Collaborate with Advancement, Programs, Operations, and In-Kind teams to align volunteer engagement with organizational priorities.
- Partner with program directors and managers to assess volunteer needs and align capacity with service delivery goals.
- Train and support program staff in volunteer supervision standards and best practices.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for complex volunteer issues, conflicts, or performance concerns.
- Establish standardized reporting schedules and data quality expectations.
- Analyze volunteer trends and present findings, risks, and recommendations to the Director and organizational leadership.
- Use data insights to inform strategy, resource allocation, and system improvements.
- Ensure accurate documentation and compliance with data privacy standards.
- Embed equity, cultural responsiveness, and radical hospitality into volunteer policies, systems, and practices.
- Ensure volunteer opportunities are accessible to individuals from diverse backgrounds and abilities.
- Integrate trauma-informed and culturally responsive approaches into volunteer training.
- Promote inclusive engagement practices that reflect the communities Neighborhood House serves.
- Support budget development, monitoring, and forecasting for volunteer programming.
- Track and approve expenses related to volunteer engagement within delegated authority.
