Volunteer Engagement VISTA

The Sanneh Foundation (TSF) is a 501(c)(3) serving the various needs of Minnesota's low-income youth and their families. The Volunteer Engagement VISTA will create and improve volunteer engagement processes that support TSF's Nutritional Services program. By strengthening the volunteer signup experience, implementing new management software, and building a skills-based volunteer model, the VISTA will increase the organization's capacity to engage the community in closing the food insecurity gap.

Objective

1

Develop an in-depth understanding of TSF's mission and programs while serving directly at food distribution sites to engage and support community volunteers.

  • Participate in the TSF on-site orientation, including history, mission, core values, and department introductions
  • Spend 50% of service time on the ground at food events to interact with, support, and engage volunteers in real-time
  • Partner with the Nutritional Services team to develop and implement protocols for logging volunteer hours and ensuring food safety training is completed for proper audit documentation
  • Observe current on-site workflows to identify "ghost time" or logistical bottlenecks that impact the volunteer experience

Improve the efficiency and effectiveness of volunteer management by transitioning to new software and streamlining administrative workflows.

  • Identify and implement efficiencies to remove "ghost time" from volunteer shifts, ensuring every volunteer's time is utilized effectively
  • Redesign and improve the volunteer sign-up process to create a more user-friendly and engaging digital experience for prospective supporters
  • Train Nutritional Services and Advancement staff on the new Bloomerang Volunteer system and related reporting protocols.
Objective 3

Ensure the long-term success of the volunteer program by formalizing all systems and strategic plans into a SOP's

  • Finalize thorough documentation of the strategic planning process, including all observations and system improvements made during the term
  • Create a comprehensive handbook of materials, including standard operating procedures (SOPs) for Bloomerang Volunteer and the skills-based program
  • Develop a transition guide for future VISTAs or staff that includes the strategic roadmap and key volunteer partnership contacts.

Compensation & Benefits Ameri Corps  members and Ameri Corps Seniors volunteers receive benefits during and after their service as they make a difference across America. This includes loan forbearance, professional development, and for those with children under 13, an Americorps childcare benefit. Ameri Corps compensation does not count as income for Social Security benefits. Pay rate - $957.46 bi-weekly (before taxes).

Segal Education Award - $7,395 (before taxes, based on Pell Grant) is distributed via My Ameri Corps .gov following a full term of service. Sanneh is able to offer a housing, nutrition, or education stipend totaling up to $1000 per month to our full time VISTA members.

Requirements: 18 years of age (no upper limit) Pass a national service criminal history check Hold one of the following citizenship statuses: U.S. citizen, U.S. National, Lawful Permanent Resident Aliens and persons residing in a state that have the following legal residency classifications:
Refugee, asylum or asylee, temporary protected status, or deferred action for childhood arrivals (DACA) status.
