Democrats across the country have looked to the Minnesota DFL Party as a model for how to win elections and improve people’s lives. For more than eighty years, the Minnesota DFL has worked tirelessly to enact progressive policies and provide a platform for those who need it most. We believe that every Minnesotan has a right to stable employment with fair wages, to a proper education, to raise and provide for a family, to accessible and affordable health care, to live in safe communities, and to retire with dignity and security.

Position Overview

The Minnesota DFL is hiring a full-time Indigenous Coalition Organizer to work on behalf of state and local candidates, with a strong focus on re-electing Attorney General Keith Ellison. The Indigenous Coalition Organizer will work under the Coalitions Director and work to build culturally relevant events, house parties, and Direct Voter Contact outreach opportunities in Indigenous communities.

Term of Employment:
This is a temporary, full-time position extending through November 15th, 2026. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, lead and build grassroots events to engage volunteers and potential voters such as house parties, meet-n-greets, canvasses (door knocks), rallies, relational outreach, and culturally tailored events.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the campaign at already established community events engaging stakeholders and potential voters.
  • Work with other organizers, candidates, campaign staff, organizing units, and organizations from across the state.
  • Must be able to hit metric goals on a weekly basis including Direct Voter Contact, volunteer recruitment, and event building.
  • Will be supervised by the Coalitions Director.
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Organizing Director or Campaign Manager.
Who You Are

You are someone who thrives in fast-paced, mission-driven environments and brings a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach to your work. You believe in the DFL’s values and are excited to contribute your skills to making change in Minnesota.

We’re looking for someone who brings:

  • Demonstrated ability to meet and exceed goals.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Detail oriented and comfortable working in a high pressure environment with evolving conditions.
  • Ability to act as an ambassador for the campaign.
  • Dedication to the protection of democracy and equal treatment under the law through electoral organizing.
  • Sees diversity as an asset, and equity and inclusion are core values.
  • Must be a self-starter, and be able to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Access to a reliable vehicle. Travel will be required.
  • Ability to work long hours, including afternoons/evenings and weekends.

Additional qualifications that will help you succeed in this role:

  • Prior electoral organizing, community organizing, or volunteer recruitment and management experience preferred (paid, volunteer, or internship).
  • Knowledge and experience using Vote builder (VAN).
  • Member in Indigenous community-centered chat(s).
  • Experience overseeing or supervising volunteers or employees.

Don’t meet every single requirement? We encourage you to apply anyway. Studies show that women, people of color, LGBTQ individuals, and members of other underrepresented communities often hesitate to apply unless they meet every qualification. At the DFL, we are committed to building a team that reflects the diversity of Minnesota — including people of all races, ethnicities, gender identities, sexual orientations, abilities, and backgrounds.

We believe our party and our work are stronger when everyone is included and empowered.
