Part-Time Food Shelf Manager

Position Title: Part-Time Food Shelf Manager
Reports To: Non-Profit Executive Director
Hours:
15-20 hours per week (flexible based on organizational needs)(Will grow as demand grows)
Location: Norway Community Association, 539 Phalen Blvd, St. Paul, MN 55130

Position Summary

Norway Community Association is seeking a Part‑Time Food Shelf Manager who is eager to learn, grow the food shelf program, and serve the community. This role oversees the daily operations of the food shelf, ensuring that individuals and families accessing our services are welcomed in a respectful and supportive manner. The manager is responsible for managing food inventory, coordinating and supervising volunteer activities, overseeing client services, and ensuring compliance with all food safety standards.

This position is considered an internship and will be provide a stipend for mileage and gas of $500 monthly and requires 15-20 hours per week , with flexibility. We anticipate that this role will expand, with increased hours expected within the next year as the program continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities Food Shelf Operations (80%)
  • Manage day-to-day food shelf operations and client service activities.
  • Ensure a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for clients, volunteers, and staff.
  • Monitor food distribution procedures to ensure equitable and efficient service.
  • Maintain accurate records of client visits, food distribution, and program statistics.
  • Order food and supplies from partner organizations as well as coordinate deliveries and pick up.
  • Receive, inspect, and organize food donations and purchased products.
  • Monitor inventory levels and coordinate food orders to maintain adequate supplies.
  • Ensure proper food storage and adherence to food safety guidelines.
  • Minimize food waste through effective inventory rotation and management.
  • Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise volunteers.
  • Provide ongoing support and recognition for volunteers.
  • Ensure volunteers understand organizational policies, procedures, and safety practices.
Administrative Duties (5%)
  • Monitor reports on client, track volunteer hours, and program outcomes.
  • Assist with grant reporting and data collection requirements.
  • Maintain confidentiality of client information.
  • Support organizational fundraising and special events as requested.
  • Post weekly on Organization Facebook about Food Shelf news and updates.
Qualifications Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work with diverse populations.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently, lead and connect with volunteers.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including using Google Suite.
  • Must obtain food safety certification prior to employment or during probationary period. (Organization will cover expenses)
  • Physical requirements includes:
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting.
  • Work in an office setting, food shelf, and warehouse.
Preferred
  • Experience in food service, nonprofit programs, warehouse operations, retail inventory, or related fields.
  • Knowledge of food safety regulations and inventory management practices.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and community service programs.
  • Bilingual abilities are a plus.
Proposed Work Schedule
  • Tues: 9AM-5PM (delivery and food shelf hours of operation)
  • Wed:
    As needed (Depends on week of the month)
  • Thursday:
    Flexible 2-4 hrs (Depends on delivery)
  • Fri: 12pm-5PM (food shelf hours of operation)
Compensation
  • Wage Rate: stipend for mileage and gas of $500 monthly.
