PART TIME EVENINGS 16 HOURS EVERY OTHER WEEKEND 1-6 staffing ratio Summary/Objective

The Certified Nursing Assistant shares the VISION of the Little Sisters of the Poor which is to contribute to the Culture of Life at Holy Family Residence a Home for the neediest elderly, each person is valued, treated with dignity and the wisdom of age is celebrated. The Certified Nursing Assistant performs routine resident care duties delegated by the Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse who supervises the individual for the direct care of a resident.

The Certified Nursing Assistant assists residents with their personal needs and care, including mobility in accordance with the comprehensive assessment and plan of care. These services are consistent with the Home's standards and philosophy and are in compliance with all regulations, codes, policies and procedures that govern the facility.

Requirements and

Qualifications:
  • Current registration with the Minnesota Nursing Assistant Registry as a Certified Nursing Assistant in good standing.
  • A minimum of grammar school education is essential; a high school education is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a long-term care facility is desirable.
  • Must have the ability to position and move Resident using proper body mechanics with or without assistive devices.
  • Must possess a valid CPR/BLS certification and maintain active certification.
  • Must possess good written and verbal communication skills. Must have the ability to hear, understand, read, write, and communicate effectively in English.
  • Has evidence of good mental and physical health, maturity, and responsibility.
  • Must be able to function independently and collaboratively, performing related duties/tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Must be proficient in computer usage and software applications, including but not limited to electronic medical records.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Possess the ability to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Essential Functions

Manuals, Policies/Procedures and Mission Integration materials for the Little Sisters are located in the Director of Nursing Services Office. A personal copy of current Employee Handbook, the Home’s Supplement and Benefit Guide are provided at time of hire.

  • Identify and recognize uniqueness of each resident including those with dementia. Recognize the changes associated with aging, adapting care under the direction of the Nursing Unit Supervisor.
  • Demonstrate an ability to establish relationships with residents and families and communicate with respect and dignity.
  • Keep informed, observe and report to nurse any changes or observations in residents’ behavior and physical status and adapt to these changes providing the safest care. Follow instructions and report back when necessary. Seek guidance using the proper channels of communication.
  • Demonstrate an ability to use appropriate verbal and nonverbal communication skills with residents with dignity and respect. Recognize common barriers to communication, including language, vision and hearing changes, memory loss and disorientation. Know and use good judgement in responding to behaviors of wandering and combativeness.
  • Demonstrate an ability to promote independence of residents within the limitations of their physical, mental and intellectual impairments, fostering self-help skills, recognizing residents’ level of ability in self-care. Allow choices and adequate time to perform care.
  • Report pertinent information to nursing staff responsible for next shift on all relevant units; receive report of pertinent information from nursing staff responsible for previous shift on all relevant units.
  • Work effectively and cooperatively as a team member within department and with all departments or other disciplines. Communicate and cooperate with team lifting and toileting.
  • Understand and implement role in fire drills.
