Nursing Assistant Position

Regions Hospital is hiring a compassionate, collaborative, and committed Nursing Assistant who is driven to provide excellent care to our patients on the Observation Unit! This unit is a 22-bed capacity med-surg/telemetry unit focused on short stay medical-surgical observation as well as extended recovery patients. This includes general surgery, acute care surgery, neurosurgery, urology, cardiac telemetry and post procedural care. When you start your career as a Nursing Assistant you will receive 2-3 weeks of training with our nursing education to learn more about our electronic health system, hospital safety, disengagement skills and restraints, and unlicensed assistive partner skills.

Being a part of the nursing team at Regions means you will use your technical and people skills to positively impact the type of care our patients receive and overall experience.

As a Nursing Assistant, you will be responsible for assisting the patient with activities of daily living (ADLs), providing patient care treatments which include but are not limited to, discontinuing IVs, restraint monitoring, and collecting patient vitals, weights, and intake & output all in a safe, timely, and effective manner. This position regularly collects specimens such as urine, stool, and finger stick blood glucose at the direction of the nurse.

The Nursing Assistant responds to patient call lights and requests, communicates with patients and visitors, and assist the nurses with procedures as requested. This position also documents and charts in our electronic health system.

Work Schedule/FTE:.7 FTE (28 hours per week) working evenings (3pm-11:30pm). This position requires you work every other weekend and holiday.

Required Qualifications:

  • Completion of a certified nursing assistant (CNA) training program (may include being listed on the MN Registry)

Or

  • Experience in an acute care or long-term care setting as a Nursing Assistant and/or Emergency Room Technician (6 months at a minimum of 0.5 FTE)

Or

  • Completion of one clinical rotation in a RN or LPN program within the past 12 months

And

  • A current Basic Life Support CPR certification from either the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Experience or nursing assistant education must have occurred within the last five (5) years.

Certification:
Current CPR certification (American Heart BLS for Healthcare Providers) required. (Demonstrates at the time of employment and every 2 years thereafter).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Demonstrates basic computers skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with patients, visitors, and co-workers.
  • Ability to independently initiate appropriate tasks within the scope of practice of the position.
  • Ability to provide individualized care and respond to a variety of patient/family preferences.
  • Ability to provide an exceptional patient experience utilizing strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to set priorities and manage time effectively.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High school degree or equivalent
  • Prior experience in acute care or hospital setting
  • Nursing assistant certification
  • Proficiency using Electronic Health Record (EPIC)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
