About the RoleThe State of Minnesota – Direct Care and Treatment is looking for a hard‑working, skilled individual for the Groundskeeper Senior position on the St. Peter, MN campus. This individual will direct and lead other members of the Campus Grounds maintenance team, performing routine maintenance on campus, including but not limited to lawn maintenance, trees and shrubbery work, weed control, snow and ice removal, and irrigation maintenance.
Key Responsibilities- Provide overall direction to the campus grounds maintenance team.
- Perform routine maintenance: lawn, trees/shrubbery, weed control, snow and ice removal, irrigation.
- Operate medium‑duty construction equipment such as skid loaders, tractors, backhoes and snow plows.
- Experience in developing, writing and communicating landscape and campus grounds and maintenance projects.
- Experience directing and leading others to complete work assignments in a timely manner.
- Ability to complete forms, write reports or instructions, and maintain written records sufficient to meet administrative requirements using Microsoft Office applications.
- Groundskeeping on a multiple building complex using hand‑held tools, riding machinery (all types of lawn and landscape equipment), and snow removal equipment (hand and heavier equipment).
- Knowledge of horticulture landscape practices (including planting schedules, germination intervals, and plant growth procedures) sufficient to interpret design plans, specifications, and blueprints.
- Knowledge of chemical fertilizer and pesticide application and related safety practices.
- Valid MN driver’s license.
- MN non‑commercial pesticide applicator’s license or ability to obtain within approximately six months.
- Commercial Driver’s License (CDL A or
B). - Post‑secondary education in plant sciences.
- Able to lift and move 40 to 80 lbs.
- Able to work in inclement weather conditions.
