About the Job

This position will study targeted therapy for breast cancer growth and metastasis. Ongoing research projects in the laboratory include the study of growth factor signaling in regulating growth and metastasis of breast cancer, to study the effect of signaling inhibitors and on biology and metastasis of breast cancer. Experience in working with insulin receptor targeted drug is required. This will be a short term position.

85% Research:
Conduct research under the PI’s direction; perform supervised scientific experiments using cell , biological and molecular methods in cell culture models of triple negative breast cancer; western blotting; maintain a laboratory notebook; write up results and present them in lab meetings; read scientific literature based on the projects. The employee will plan experiments in collaboration with the supervisor and will be expected to problem solve with the help of the supervisor and implement changes necessary to ensure success of the work.

Lab maintenance - 15%:
General lab maintenance and duties including lab equipment, making solutions, stocking of lab & tissue culture, routine lab upkeep. Training the new staff member on lab duties and maintenance.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in biology, biochemistry, or a related discipline and work experience related to the job totaling at least four years' experience in combination.
  • Experience with cell culture of MCF-7L, MDA-MB-231, MDA-MB-468, and Hs578T cell lines and western blotting to evaluate the role of insulin receptor targeted drugs in triple negative breast cancer.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.

The selected candidate will have interest in models of cancer biology and use of modern molecular biology techniques. They will also be expected to demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, motivation, ability to follow protocols, work independently, and multi-task.

Preferred:
  • Experience and demonstrated technical ability in biochemical and analytical assays.
  • Ability to read and evaluate scientific papers; ability to write up scientific results and contribute to editing manuscripts; strong computer and organizational skills.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $20.26/hr; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
