Position: Researcher 2

This is a short term position with a duration of 5 months.

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm (40 hours per week)

Responsibilities Project Support - Data Analysis and Documentation (70%)
  • QTL analysis of microbiome and disease resistance data for tetraploid potato populations from collaborators
  • Ag Ren Seq  Data analysis for disease resistance data from collaborators
  • RNAseq analysis for tetraploid potato
  • Assisting students and other researchers in the lab with data analysis challenges
  • Produce publication-quality figures from analysis results
  • Write methods and results sections describing above analyses
  • Coordinate and collaborate with co-authors to write manuscripts
  • Participate in review and revision process
Greenhouse/Field Research (30%)
  • Assist in planting, data collection, pollination, care, and harvest of potatoes in the greenhouse and field
  • Assist graduate students with data collection for thesis research
  • Assist in spring planting preparation including cutting and packaging seed, and verification
  • Assist in potato grading, frying, and photographing
Qualifications
  • BA/BS plus at least two years of relevant experience or a combination of education and relevant work experience equal to six years
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work independently and as part of a team
  • Valid driver's license by start date
  • Experience with bioinformatic and/or quantitative genetic data analysis
Desired Qualifications
  • MS in plant sciences
  • Experience working in non-model or polyploid systems
  • Experience responding to journal requests for revision
  • Experience with agricultural research including small plot experimentation
  • Published (or submitted for publication) computational genetics research

Special Requirements: This position will include both greenhouse and agricultural field work, which will include transporting 50+ lb crates of potatoes and bags of soil, moving through fields, riding farm equipment, and digging. Furthermore, it will involve overnight travel with lab members to research sites within Minnesota and the Northern Plains region.

Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $26.50 - $29.30 per hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience

Time Appointment: 100% Appointment, temporary 5 month position
