About the Job

Join us! Our atmospheric chemistry group at the University of Minnesota (UMN) is seeking applications for a Postdoctoral Associate to work on space-based measurements for atmospheric chemistry with the new generation of geostationary infrared (IR) satellite instruments. The geostationary IR data will provide new information to understand the emissions and impacts of key atmospheric chemicals on an hourly basis, and this project will also inform planning for the forthcoming NOAA GXS satellite instrument.

  • developing, testing, and interpreting IR trace gas retrievals in a geostationary context (65%)
  • writing and publishing results in peer‑reviewed journals (25%)
  • presenting findings at scientific conferences (3%)
  • meeting regularly with supervisor and collaborative team (2%)
  • participating in professional development activities (5%)
  • The successful candidate will be part of our dynamic research group at UMN while also working closely with our collaborators at other institutions. Our research group couples measurements with modeling to examine natural and human‑caused impacts on atmospheric composition.     Qualifications

    Required Qualifications
    A Ph.D. in atmospheric chemistry or related field at the time of hire, and the ability to join the team no later than July 1, 2026.

    Preferred Qualifications
    Experience with atmospheric modeling and computational analysis. Strong expertise in atmospheric chemistry. Demonstrated scientific writing proficiency, with first-author publications in refereed journals related to atmospheric chemistry. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Strong communication skills.

    Pay and Benefits

    Pay Range: $62,232 to $68,000 annually; depending on education/qualifications/experience
