Salary Range: $27.83 - $37.91 per hour; $58,109 - $79,156 annually
Responsibilities- Assist in the entry, organization, and maintenance of groundwater data.
- Generate and maintain simple GIS datasets.
- Prepare maps for reports using existing and original datasets.
- Create geological cross sections using GIS.
- Write sections of text for larger reports led by senior staff.
- Conduct hydrogeologic analysis as assigned.
- Perform fieldwork for aquifer tests and ongoing monitoring of wells.
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Geological Engineering, Hydrology, Forest Hydrology, Geography, Geology, Geophysics, Hydrogeology, Natural Resources, Environmental Studies, Soil Science, Water Resources Management, Hydraulics, Environmental Science, Earth Science, or a related major.
- Three hydrology qualifying courses in the areas of Hydrology, Hydraulics, Hydrogeology/Groundwater Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Hydrologic Modeling, Watershed Management, Groundwater, Fluid Mechanics, or fluvial geomorphology;
** OR**- Two hydrology qualifying courses and two courses (or equivalent experience) in Geology, Geomorphology, Geochemistry, Geography, Limnology, Erosion and Sediment Control, Environmental Engineering, or Soils.
- Proficiency with basic computer software (spreadsheet, presentation, word processing) to compile, analyze, and present hydrogeologic data.
- Proficiency with GIS tools to compile, analyze, and present hydrogeologic data.
- Technical skill using software and databases for groundwater data management and workup.
- Knowledge of principles of groundwater flow and geological processes.
- Ability to work collaboratively and productively on a team.
- Ability to work independently and manage competing demands to meet timely work-product delivery.
- Skill to troubleshoot hydrologic monitoring field equipment.
- Skill to effectively communicate verbally and in writing.
- Ability to follow policies and procedures, including accepting and implementing peer review.
- Ability to perform all tasks in a safe manner.
- At least one course in groundwater hydrology such as Hydrogeology, Groundwater Hydraulics, Contaminant Transport, or Groundwater Modeling.
- Geology coursework sufficient for Professional Geologist licensure as described in MN Rules .
- Additional coursework in groundwater hydrology.
- Experience with groundwater field monitoring.
- Unrestricted Class D Driver’s license with a clear driving record.
- There may be overnight statewide travel up to 5 days per week infrequently and 1–2 days per week occasionally for data collection and site visits.
- Ability to work outdoors and occasionally walk to field sites in rugged terrain while carrying field equipment.
- Ability to meet physical requirements and work in environmental conditions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
