We are seeking motivated men and women to join the largest sheriff’s office in northern Minnesota with a staff of 300 including 118 licensed Deputies serving the largest county in Minnesota—over 7,500 square miles, home to 202,000 residents, and a destination for thousands more each season. From the rugged Lake Vermilion to the international port city of Duluth, St. Louis County offers a variety of duty stations, from remote wilderness posts to urban policing.

• Specialized Teams – Opportunities include Emergency Response Team, Drone Team, Underwater Recovery Team, K‑9 Unit (6 teams across the county), and more.

Lateral hire:
Experienced law enforcement professionals may qualify for higher starting pay, accelerated training, and increased vacation, sick and parental leave accruals.

The full salary range, including longevity pay, is $32.44 - $47.13 per hour.

An employee in this class is responsible for routine criminal investigation, law enforcement, and process serving tasks. Duties include responding to calls for service within a patrol area and enforcing laws by proactive patrolling and investigating crimes. The work is performed under the direction of assigned supervisory staff.

CONSTANT:

• Meet the educational requirements or reciprocity standards of the Minnesota Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) Board to become licensed as a peace officer according to Minnesota Rules ; OR possession of a valid Minnesota POST license, eligibility, or reciprocity application.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to lawfully possess a firearm in the State of Minnesota.
