This position will lead DEED's long-range strategies for physical security and safety. This position will develop and maintain agency-wide policies and standards, planning frameworks, and performance measures that guide executive decision-making, reduce organizational risk, ensure regulatory compliance, and strengthen agency preparedness and continuity of operations.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing, implementing, and evaluating agency-wide programs related to the following:
- Physical security, security technology, and facility protection
- Occupational safety and injury prevention
- Workplace violence prevention and threat management
- Environmental health and ergonomics
- Incident/emergency management and continuity of operations
This position will be based out of the St. Paul office and may be eligible for some telework. Staff are provided with the tools and equipment to be successful in a virtual work environment. Please note, the telework policy could change with notice based on business needs.
This position requires occasional in-state travel a few times per month for site visits.

Minimum Qualifications
Four (4) years of experience
* in physical security, occupational safety, workplace violence prevention, emergency management, and/or continuity planning principles and best practices.
* Associate's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental health and safety, or other closely related field as determined by the agency may substitute six (6) months of experience; bachelor's degree substitutes for one (1) year of experience; master's degree substitutes for eighteen (18) months of experience.
Applicants that meet the above minimum qualification will be further evaluated on the following:
- Experience conducting inspections, risk assessments, audits, incident investigations, hazard analyses, or threat assessments in organizational settings.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply federal and state laws, regulations, and standards governing safety, security, emergency management, and regulatory compliance.
- Skill in developing, implementing, or managing programs in physical security, occupational safety, workplace violence prevention, emergency management, or business continuity.
- Ability to monitor performance measures, evaluate program effectiveness using trend analysis and incident data, and recommend corrective actions or solutions.
- Ability to lead cross-functional initiatives or provide technical guidance or training to leadership, stakeholders, or external partners.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in government, public sector operations, or enterprise-wide program administration.
