Summary Of Job Duties
Performs precision welding and custom fabrication work in the maintenance and repair of City vehicles and equipment. Equipment ranges from heavy equipment such as snow plows, sanders, dozer blades, and conveyors to public safety vehicles including fire and police equipment and parks turf maintenance equipment.
PrimaryDuties & Responsibilities
Performs electrical and gas welding to fabricate and repair steel, stainless steel, and aluminum parts and equipment; fabricates and retrofits specialized equipment, parts and accessories; reads, draws and interprets blueprints and instructions; coordinates with customers, vendors and contractors to obtain desired results; determines appropriate welding methods and materials; maintains computer records and prepares reports; may perform equipment PM’s, basic electrical and hydraulic hook‑up, service and repair;
maintains tools and equipment used in welding operations; maintains inventory of parts and supplies; and performs additional duties as assigned.
Education: High School Diploma or GED.
Experience: At least 2 years progressively responsible welding experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge, skills and abilities may be considered.
Knowledge: Knowledge of practices, procedures, materials, equipment and systems related to welding and fabrication function; and applicable safety practices and procedures.
Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens; communicate effectively both verbally and in writing; read and draw blueprints, diagrams, and schematics; read and apply instructions and specifications; and perform physical activities common to the welding field.
Skills: Interpersonal skills as well as skill in the use of welding and fabrication materials, tools and equipment.
Licenses or Certificates
Required:
Colorado Driver’s License with a good driving record. AWS welding certifications preferred.
Physical Demands: Heavy physical work requiring ability to lift a maximum of 100 pounds; frequent lifting and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds; considerable walking and standing; frequent performance of activities requiring full range of body movement including bending, stooping, pushing, pulling, climbing and crawling; considerable eye/hand/foot coordination to operate tools and automotive equipment; some eye/hand/foot coordination for driving equipment and vehicles;
vision to read manuals, gauges and meters; speech and hearing to receive and provide technical information and instructions.
Work Environment: Works in an automotive shop environment with considerable exposure to high temperatures, dust, noise and fumes.
Equipment Used: Standard business and professional equipment and tools including computers and specialized welding and fabrication equipment. Drives equipment and vehicles in and out of the shop.

Personal Leave: The city provides twenty‑four (24) hours of personal leave to full‑time employees each January 1 following the completion of one year of continuous service and 2080 worked hours (excluding overtime). A pro‑rated portion of personal leave is provided after the first six (6) months of continuous service and again at twelve (12) months continuous service.
Annual Leave: Employees accrue annual leave after the successful completion of their introductory period. Accruals for Annual Leave for full‑time regular employees are:
- 0‑2 years of service: 12 days
- 2‑4 years of service: 13 days
- 4‑6 years of service: 14 days
- 6‑8 years of service: 15 days
- 8‑10 years of service: 16 days
- 10‑12 years of service: 17 days
- 12‑14 years of service: 18 days
- 14‑15 years of service: 20 days
- 15+ years of service: 23 days
