Position: Crew Leader - CDL Required

Essential Functions of Crew Leader at Wright Tree Service

The Crew Leader supervises a line clearance crew, plans daily work, assigns tasks, and ensures safety compliance, customer relations, record keeping, and equipment maintenance.

  • Supervises a line clearance crew and plans daily work.
  • Assigns work to crew members and directs crew in performing work according to accepted line clearance practices.
  • Adjusts to field requirements and takes independent action without close supervision.
  • Recognizes poisonous plants and uses proper safeguards against them.
  • Enforces safe work practices, conducts safety training in accordance with company policies, and follows OSHA specifications.
  • Obtains oral or written permission from property owners to trim or remove trees and apply herbicides.
  • Arranges access with customers or property owners, advises them of interruptions, and explains the work that needs to be done.
  • Repairs minor damages and escalates complicated situations to the General Foreperson.
  • Promotes and maintains good customer/public relations through effective completion of work.
  • Keeps accurate records, timesheets, and reports related to the crew’s performance.
  • Furnishes supervisors and utility representatives with reports of completed orders, units of work, crew time, and distribution.
  • Receives and interprets tree trimming, removal, and chemical application orders initiated by the General Foreperson or Utility, including understanding drawings and symbols.
  • Conducts safety training for assigned personnel in coordination with client company policies.
  • Controls crew costs through effective use of manpower, proper work methods, trimming volume, and equipment operation.
  • Considers inclement weather and determines when to start or stop work.
  • Safeguards employees and public from hazards and cooperates with law enforcement when blocking street or driveways.
  • Sets up barriers, warning signs, and flags to protect employees and the public.
  • Trains new employees on proper procedures and works around hazardous equipment near energized power lines.
  • Performs truck inspection, repairs, and maintains proper working conditions for equipment.
  • Responds to emergencies, determines proper action to eliminate hazards, and engages in trimming/removal to expedite service restoration.
  • Trims and/or removes trees by climbing, using ladders, safety belts, or powering equipment.
  • Uses appropriate tools to fell trees, trim trunks, and break them into manageable pieces.
  • Sprays stumps and brush with hand‑spraying equipment to prevent further growth.
  • Loads and unloads trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris, and feeds brush into a wood chipper.
  • Repairs slight damage to lawns, fences, and walkways caused by tree trimming.
  • Services gasoline, air, and hand‑powered tools and other equipment.
  • Relays hand‑signals, directs traffic, drives, and operates trucks and equipment as assigned.
  • Maintains good housekeeping on truck and worksite locations.
  • Perform other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications
  • Minimum 3 years tree trimming experience.
