Position: Vehicle Technician (Heavy Truck & Equipment)

Vehicle Technician

The City of Saint Paul Fleet Services Division is seeking a Vehicle Technician to inspect, diagnose, maintain and repair heavy-duty trucks, construction equipment, and specialized municipal equipment. Join a team of dedicated professionals who use advanced diagnostic technology and skilled mechanical expertise to keep the City's essential fleet operating safety and efficiently. Here's what you can expect to do:

  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and perform skilled repairs and diagnostics on complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and multiplex electrical systems using advanced diagnostic equipment and software.
  • Service and maintain a variety of vehicles and equipment such as heavy trucks, construction equipment, other heavy duty maintenance equipment, and related equipment and accessories such as chainsaws, mowers, and light duty trucks needed to support City services.
  • Document inspections, maintenance, repairs, parts usage, and labor in electronic fleet management systems.
  • ASE Certification is highly valued.

Information specific to this position:

We are filling one vacancy at the Fleet Services Division, 891 North Dale Street to support the maintenance and repair of a diverse fleet of equipment. The vacancy shift is four 10-hour nights | Monday through Thursday 3 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. to include a Night Shift Premium: +6.5% night differential pay after 6 p.m. The eligible list created from this posting may also be used to fill vacancies in other departments as needed to include maintenance and repair of front end loaders, dump trucks, backhoes at Saint Paul Regional Water Services and on ladder trucks, fire engines, squads, and ambulances at the Saint Paul Fire Department.
