Overview
Ramsey County is hiring two Social Worker Principals to provide leadership and supervision within Child Protection. One position will supervise a Senior Child Protection Worker onboarding team focused on training, mentoring, and supporting new CPWs. The second position will supervise a traditional Child Protection unit that includes intake/investigation and ongoing case management staff. Both positions require strong leadership, coaching, and practice expertise with a commitment to staff development, equity, and quality outcomes for children and families.
Responsibilities- Provide clinical supervision, accountability, and support to ensure high-quality safety assessments, family engagement, and timely, effective casework.
- Supervise and direct the work of assigned units, including staff hiring, case assignment, performance evaluation, and guidance for development; ensure compliance with applicable laws, policies, and regulations; participate in unit meetings and case consultations; address problems and coordinate disciplinary actions as needed.
- Coordinate with public and private social service agencies; represent the unit or department in committees, community interactions, and public speaking engagements.
- Monitor unit data to identify trends and inform program priorities; set goals and standards for the unit; respond to inquiries from clients, officials, and the public.
- Develop recommendations regarding changes in laws, regulations, and policies affecting the target population; plan and present informational or training sessions to unit staff.
- Contribute to program, policy, and procedural development with Human Service Managers; assist in interpreting laws, policies, rules, and regulations.
- Supervise MnCHOICES assessment social workers, nurses, case aides, and clerical staff; hire staff, assign cases, evaluate performance, and guide professional development.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws, policies, procedures, and regulations; conduct case consultations and unit meetings to monitor service delivery and resolve problems; administer disciplinary actions as needed.
- Manage unit activities and provide diagnostic and consultative services within the MnCHOICES focus area.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree in a social/behavioral science, or equivalent; and 23 credits or 230 continuing education hours in related social work fields. - Experience:
Six years of social work experience or equivalent. - Substitution:
Ramsey County experience as a Human Services Case Aide 3 may substitute for general social work experience (two years Case Aide 3 equals one year general social work; maximum substitution is six years). Master’s Degree in Social Work may substitute for two years of experience. - Certifications/Licensure:
None.
- Examination consists of a Training and Experience Rating (weighted 100%).
