Asset Building Specialist
- Financial Opportunities Program

Under the direction of the Director, Financial Opportunity Programs, this position is responsible for implementing and coordinating programs and services focused on supporting participant financial stability and providing direct services to participants to resolve financial crises, improve financial behavior, build assets and become financially stable.

Essential Functions:

  • Crisis Management:
    Support participants in application for current department programs and services focused on addressing temporary fiscal crises. Orientate participants to ensure understanding of program requirements and accurate completion of application(s). Assist participants in securing and fulfilling the requirements of the appropriate grant or crisis program based on eligibility. Review applications for eligibility and process documentation required for approval of crisis grant funds.

    Support participants throughout the application process and ensure communication and service is consistent and of high quality.
  • Financial Coaching & Asset Building:
    Assist participants with comprehensive financial assessment(s) to determine barriers to financial stability. Work with participants to set financial and asset goals and develop an action plan. Provide financial coaching on budgeting, credit building/repair, and debt repayment, savings and general financial management. Coordinate and/or lead monthly/quarterly workshops on financial stability themes for participants and community members. Monitor participant progress toward building assets and financial stability, maintaining open communication.

    Identify and develop partnerships to support program objectives. Connect participants to other resources within the agency and in the community.
  • Program Management, Outreach, Evaluation and Growth:
    Maintain accurate and complete records for all participants to document eligibility, program services and to track and report outcomes. Provide monthly, quarterly and annual program outcome reports. Assist Supervisor with researching, developing, drafting and editing of communication materials. Maintain and support program(s) through coordination of office systems, databases, and file maintenance. Provide coordination and work effectively with staff to assure smooth, timely and efficient operation of the program.

    Establish and maintain collaboration with other Community Actions services, emergency services providers and community resources to better meet the needs of participants. Work directly with community partners, business, organizations, federal and state administrators and financial institutions to ensure successful program implementation and growth. Attend staff meetings, other meetings, workshops and program-specific training sessions when appropriate. Identify opportunities and provide work direction for volunteers to increase our capacity to meet goals.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education & Experience:

Bachelor's degree in a Human Services or related field with 3 years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Abilities and

Skills:

In order to be successful in this position, the person will at minimum need to possess the following abilities and skills:
Must have demonstrated knowledge of interviewing case management and assessment skills. Experience in financial services and/or asset building. Experience in managing crisis grant programs and/or funds for communities in need. Demonstrated interpersonal skills, including collaborating with a team, working across program areas, disseminating information effectively and conflict resolution. Experience interacting with individuals from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds. Experience facilitating adult group learning required.

Must have effective verbal and written communication skills. Public speaking skills preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Docs/Gmail strongly preferred. Knowledge of community resources preferred. To ensure compliance with program requirements, and safety of staff and clients, the ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing is required. Driver's License: A valid driver's license and reliable transportation on a daily basis is required.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires an awareness of deadlines, the ability to handle and prioritize multiple tasks, and the ability to function independently. Environmental Requirements:
Normal office environment. This position is not eligible for Remote Work.
