About the Job

The Community Trainer position (Temp/Casual) is a University employee positioned in the School of Social Work. Specifically, the Community Trainer serves as a critical member of the Student Support Personnel Workforce Pathway Social Work Program training grant team. This position is responsible for facilitating two monthly clinical supervision groups for school social workers employed in K-12 settings and/or social workers who provide school-based services in Minnesota.

The groups will be structured and convened in accord with the standards and guidelines established by the Minnesota Board of Social Work. This non-benefit-eligible position will work a variety of hours (depending on the scheduling and trainer availability) over the course of the year and will fill out timesheets for the hours worked. Typically, training schedules are set six months in advance.

The budgeted salary range for this position is $80 per hour. Final salary offers are dependent on the candidate's experience, skills, and internal equity within the department.

Job Responsibilities: Teaching and Mentoring (80%)
  • Apply and reinforce social work theories, interventions, and best practices to practice situations.
  • Discuss cases to demonstrate the application of clinical reasoning, professional judgment, and decision-making skills in K-12 settings.
  • Discuss cases presented by supervises to:
    • Offer feedback on assessment, diagnosis, treatment planning, and interventions in K-12 settings.
    • Help supervises identify the strengths, challenges, and areas for growth in their school social work practice.
    • Evaluate the quality and effectiveness of social work services provided by supervises.
  • When applicable, discuss concerns about the supervisee's competence and impairment.
  • Apply ethical standards in the National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics and state regulations to practice situations.
  • Provide guidance on ethical dilemmas and engage in ethical decision making processes.
  • Offer guidance on risk management and client protection.
  • Model professional boundaries and ethical practice in K-12 settings.
  • Create an inclusive supervision space that facilitates open dialogue, psychological safety, and peer learning.
  • Encourage ongoing participation of all supervises.
  • Facilitate a group supervision space that honors confidentiality.
  • Ensure that all supervises receive thoughtful and meaningful feedback to improve their practice.
  • Encourage lifelong learning, especially with regard to school social work practice.
  • Facilitate opportunities for mutual peer support within the group supervision context.
  • Model self-care practices to help supervises manage job-related stress.
Administrative (20%)
  • Provide an orientation to the group supervision process – i.e., overview goals and expectations, documentation requirements, ethical practices, Minnesota Board of Social Work (BOSW) guidelines and requirements.
  • Schedule two, 2-hour supervision groups each month, each of which will have up to six participants.
  • Provide regular supervision updates to the Principal Investigators of the training grant that is sponsoring the group supervision.
  • Maintain supervision records and attendance.
  • Complete all documentation required by the BOSW in order for group participants to pursue clinical licensure.
  • Keep attendance logs for each supervision participant.
  • Verify BOSW requirements for receiving supervision to obtain clinical licensure are being met.
  • Sign supervision documentation for BOSW, when appropriate.
  • Understand and comply with state-specific supervision regulations.
Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with people from a variety of communities, backgrounds, and identities.
  • Master of Social Work (MSW) degree from a Council on Social Work Education-accredited social work program.
  • Active Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker in good standing with the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • Must meet the statutory requirement for an attested supervisor at the clinical level as set by the Minnesota Board of Social Work.
  • A minimum of two years of clinical group supervision experience.
  • A minimum of three years of social work practice in a K-12 setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three or more years of clinical group supervision experience.
  • Four or more years of social work practice in a K-12 setting.
  • Experience teaching in an MSW program.
  • Experience with reflective clinical social work practice.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Pay and Benefits

Pay Range: $80/hour; depending on education/qualifications/experience.
