Family Advocate Community, Part-time –

TEMPORARY POSITION WITH FUNDING GUARANTEED ONLY THROUGH December 2026.

Status:
Temporary, non-exempt, part-time, 20-30 hours per week, Monday-Friday Schedule, with occasional evenings/weekends for special projects.
Salary:
Pay ranges from $22-24/hour and will be determined based on previous experience and applicable skills.

Position overview

Family Advocates work in the community assisting survivors of domestic violence and their children to develop, pursue and achieve their goals to live free of violence while promoting Esperanza United’s mission.

  • Primarily work from 20-30 hours Monday-Friday with occasional evenings/weekends on special projects.
  • Support the Refugio (Residential Shelter) when requested by covering different shifts.
  • Strengthen existing relationships and develop new ones with community organizations and systems in the Twin Cities area, especially around responding to Latina survivors’ realities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with community organizations and systems.
What You Will Do Safety, Support & Response (80%)
  • Help survivors and their children set goals, create safety plans, and access resources such as protective orders, benefits, health care, housing, legal protections, and immigration relief.
  • Provide supportive listening, crisis response, de-escalation, and advocacy with police, medical providers, employers, creditors, social services, and attorneys.
  • Work monthly at a partner site to assist with Orders for Protection, HROs, related court hearings, and safety planning.
  • Arrange transportation and accompany participants to appointments and court appearances as needed.
  • Answer the 24-hour bilingual crisis line as needed, helping callers identify options and arrange safe shelter and transportation.
Planning, Administrative & Intervention, (20%)
  • Complete timely documentation and data entry for reporting.
  • Participate in required training and complete related administrative duties.
You’ll Bring

Education and Experience
  • Ahigh school diploma or GED.
  • Two years of intervention or crisis-response experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Skills and Abilities
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills in Spanish and English.
  • Knowledge of Twin Cities Latine communities and the cultural awareness to work effectively with individuals and families.
  • Knowledge of domestic violence issues preferred.
  • Ability to listen, de-escalate crises, resolve conflicts, manage priorities, and meet deadlines independently.
  • Comfort using computers and other technology required for the role.
  • Schedule flexibility and reliable transportation, including a valid driver’s license and adequate auto insurance.
