Position: Food Scientists and Technologists | Common Lives Project

Type: Hourly Contract

Location: Remote

Compensation: $35–$40/hour

Equipment: GoPro and accessories will be provided

The Common Lives Project is a groundbreaking initiative designed to collect real-world video data of everyday routines to help improve AI models in human activity recognition and understanding. As a Food scientist and technologist, you’ll play a key role by wearing a GoPro camera to record your regular or indoor activities. Your contributions will directly support the development of more perceptive, human-centered AI systems.

Responsibilities:

  • Wear a head-mounted GoPro camera to capture daily activities for 5 days within a 2-week period (7 hours/day with breaks) or for 3-4 hours per day over 3-4 weeks.
  • Record activities related to your duties or other manual/creative work in a private indoor environment.
  • Review, upload, and manage video clips via a secure platform after each recording session.
  • Ensure all household members provide consent to appear in the footage.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to data privacy guidelines when handling video content.

Who Can Apply:

  • Adults (18+) residing in the United States.
  • Engaged in food science, technology, or related research and development professions (e.g., food scientists, food technologists, quality control specialists, food safety experts, product development scientists, and flavor chemists).
  • Have access to a private, self-contained indoor space for video recording.
  • Comfortable with basic computer tasks for video uploading and reviewing clips.
  • Self-employed or have employer consent to record in your work environment.
