Job Summary
Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments, depending on the line of business and type of truck. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities. Key driver types:
- Commercial Drivers – pick‑up service of containers filled with waste or recyclable material.
- Residential Drivers – collection of household waste or recyclable material in residential environments.
- Roll‑Off Drivers – prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations.
- Operate vehicle per Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, and DOT requirements and all applicable local, state, and federal laws.
- Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and document checks using the DVIR.
- Immediately report unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Route Manager or Dispatch.
- Attend and participate in scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required.
- Work with Route Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
- Notify Route Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
- Inform Route Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions (closed streets, impassable alleyways, heavy receptacles, or potential safety hazards).
- Communicate customer requests to Dispatch or Route Manager.
- Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
- Follow route assignments and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
- Perform duties as scheduled and assist other drivers to meet customer needs.
- No prior driving experience required.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public.
- Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work.
- Successful completion of pre‑employment screening, including drug screen and physical.
- Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with air‑brake endorsement or CDL Class B with air‑brake endorsement.
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. (accredited).
Responsible for safe operation of a vehicle and compliance with safety rules. The position may require drug and alcohol testing as part of ongoing employment requirements.
