The Stores Specialist is a labor represented position that reports to a Supervisor for U Market Services. Positions in this class perform a variety of tasks including but not limited to receiving, cross‑docking, sorting, fulfilling, issuing and distributing of materials, equipment and supplies.

• 50% Order Filling and Distribution. Fills customer orders for supplies, equipment, and materials. Picks up, delivers or coordinates primarily inside delivery of a wide variety of materials, equipment, supplies, tools, mail and other packages via a secondary distribution hub and/or mailroom.
• 25% Shipping and Receiving. Unloads and unpacks deliveries of materials, supplies and equipment. Receives, inspects and signs for incoming shipments. Checks contents against delivery receipts noting size, number, type, condition and other discrepancies; records shortages, overages, or other discrepancies. Notes and reports product quality deficiencies and rejects damaged materials as appropriate. Coordinates outgoing shipments for the department and the customers the department serves.
• 10% Inventory Maintenance. Utilizing electronic systems, maintains vendor‑managed inventory locations. May determine or suggest need for stock replenishment and order supplies to maintain inventory in warehouse or other designated locations. Reports breakage, loss and back orders as appropriate.
• 5% Participation in Problem Solving. Attains knowledge of and actively participates in the department's process improvement efforts. Provides information, answers questions and resolves problems regarding shipping, receiving, inventory and fulfillment of equipment or materials.
• 5% Supporting FM Order Desk. Supports Facilities Management and the FM Order Desk by assisting with FM walk‑ins with locating and issuing out parts, and backing up the FM Order Desk workstation as needed.
• 5% Maintenance of inventory locations. Arranges warehouse spaces. Shelves and stores inventory, equipment and materials. Maintains clean and orderly goods, aisles and work stations.

Employees in this position provide reliable and efficient inventory maintenance and distribution of materials and equipment in a variety of locations. These employees safely operate all materials handling equipment and vehicles necessary to complete tasks. A high level of accuracy and dedication to customer service is required.

Work in this classification can include both inside and outside environments. Inside work includes primarily warehouse environments but can also include office, classroom, laboratory and custodial closet locations. Outside work can include exposure to varied weather environments.

Minimum Qualifications:

This work requires the ability to read, write and make arithmetic computations and six months of experience in warehousing, store keeping or inventory methods. Knowledge of stockroom and stock control items, methods and procedures; inventory procedures and inventory record maintenance, common clerical procedures, standard abbreviations used in shipping and designating weights and measures.

This position requires the ability to walk or stand; bend and climb to reach materials; carry and lift materials up to 50 lbs; maneuver a filled delivery cart; operate forklift, manual/electric pallet jack, or other equipment; operate a computer, copier, and other office equipment.

Although this position does not involve operating a delivery vehicle as a primary responsibility, Stores Specialists are required to have a valid class D drivers license.

Knowledge:
Knowledge of vehicle and materials handling operation and safety rules are requirements for the position. Safe handling practices and efficient inventory and warehouse methods are also expected in this position.
