Overview
Engineering Systems Inc. (ESi) is seeking a Senior Consultant with deep expertise in construction management and managing consulting projects. This role involves forensic investigations, expert analysis, and consulting on construction-related disputes and failures. The ideal candidate is a professional with hands-on experience managing complex construction projects who is ready to apply their knowledge in a forensic consulting environment.
This consultant will conduct site inspections, analyze project documentation, assess construction practices against applicable standards, and communicate findings through expert reports, presentations, and testimony. This role offers the opportunity to work on challenging cases involving claims, disputes, and failures—while collaborating with ESi s multidisciplinary team of engineers and scientists nationwide.
Key Responsibilities Client Development & Collaboration- Develop local clients and projects in the construction industry by working in concert with regional business development staff and colleagues in ESi s Civil/Structural Practice.
- Perform marketing and business development activities to identify potential clients and strategies to build a client base. The candidate would be responsible for representing ESi and its consultants to potential clients and at conferences and meetings. Business development activities also may include making presentations and introductions to obtain additional clients and projects and/or expand ESi s business.
- Partner with peers across ESi disciplines and offices to pursue and execute cross-functional projects.
- Provide consultation to clients regarding potential or existing construction issues and propose potential solutions to remedy construction issues.
- Conduct forensic investigations related to the standard of care for construction management.
- Investigate construction management issues on construction projects which may include planning, scheduling, work coordination, safety management, risk management, quality control, and work supervision.
- Prepare well-written technical reports, visual exhibits, and expert opinions for use in litigation and insurance matters.
- Provide expert witness testimony via deposition and trial.
- Offer clear, technically supported recommendations on the acceptance or scope of projects.
- Perform field inspections of a diverse range of structures and systems including residential, commercial, marine, transportation, and industrial structures.
- Lead or contribute to multidisciplinary teams; manage timelines, budgets, and client expectations.
- Adhere to and contribute to ESi's QA/QC standards by reviewing peers work.
- Perform ongoing continuing education, including preparing technical presentations, white papers, and/or peer-reviewed papers relevant to their areas of practice.
- Mentor junior consultants to support their professional development.
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor s degree in Civil/Structural Engineering or Construction Management required
- Master s degree preferred
- 8+ years of experience in construction management of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings.
- Experience as a General Contractor preferred.
- Prior consulting or forensic/litigation support experience is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat.
- Familiarity with project management software and CAD tools is a plus.
- Ability to collect and interpret field data using typical inspection tools (e.g., laser measures, drones, cameras).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for client-facing roles and technical reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage complex projects and work collaboratively within cross-functional teams.
