The Safety Specialist 2 will coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine and increasingly complex construction projects. This position will conduct safety inspections, identify and document abatement of hazardous conditions, write reports, and perform trend analysis to support JE Dunn’s safety strategy.
Key Role Responsibilities – Core- Coordinate and implement the field safety program for routine construction projects.
- Conduct regular walk‑through inspections to ensure compliance with laws and company policies.
- Perform safety audits on assigned projects, identify, document, and recommend abatement of hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions.
- Use internal safety management systems to document findings and track abatement techniques and closure.
- Conduct project‑specific new hire orientation and oversee drug and alcohol policy compliance.
- Monitor the implementation of prime contractor and/or subcontractor safety programs.
- Attend project pre‑planning, progress, and other relevant meetings to discuss safety matters.
- Support field leadership in implementing safety program specifics (meetings, committees, etc.) and chair project safety committees.
- Assist in investigating project‑related accidents, determining root causes and recommending changes to prevent recurrence.
- Coordinate with injured employees and clinics to ensure timely treatment and return to work, compiling progress summary reports of injuries.
- Monitor site safety incentive program.
- Apply advanced safety knowledge to identify complex safety issues and provide sophisticated abatement solutions.
- Use in‑depth knowledge of equipment, laws, and work processes to make project‑specific safety recommendations.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills and actively participate in meetings.
- Perform trend analysis to identify safety trends and recommend mitigation strategies.
- Provide guidance and training on basic and intermediate safety topics for team personnel.
- Assist safety leadership during insurance audits.
- Oversee complex projects, including multiple or large projects.
- Accurate, complete, and timely work execution.
- Strong verbal and written communication.
- Proficiency in MS Office.
- Knowledge of and ability to enforce federal, state, local, and company safety regulations.
- Proficiency in company safety software and tools (intermediate level).
- Ability to recognize hazardous situations and implement corrective measures.
- Ability to build relationships across the organization.
- Proficiency with construction technology.
- Bachelor’s degree in safety and health or a related field (preferred). Equivalent relevant experience will be considered.
- Minimum 2 years of construction safety experience (required).
