About Us

The Francis Howell School District (FHSD) is dedicated to supporting the communication needs of our students to enhance their educational success. We are seeking a skilled Speech Language Pathologist to identify communication disorders, implement effective treatments, and collaborate with staff and families to support student development.

Job Summary

The Speech Language Pathologist identifies students with communication disorders, plans and implements treatment to minimize adverse impacts on their success, and provides direction to teachers and Communication Therapy Aides.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment: Evaluate students' communication skills (e.g., articulation, fluency, voice, language) to identify disorders and develop treatment recommendations.
  • Collaboration: Work with parents, teachers, physicians, and other professionals to communicate information and resolve issues.
  • Coordination: Organize meetings and processes for eligible students (e.g., testing, IEPs, parent conferences) to develop and implement treatment plans.
  • Treatment Planning: Develop and implement evaluation and treatment plans, interventions, and educational materials.
  • Instruction: Train students in the use of communication technologies (e.g., hearing aids, augmentative devices) and instruct assigned staff on communicative disorders and techniques.
  • Reporting: Interpret medical and evaluation reports, maintain files and records, and prepare documentation for compliance and reference.
  • Therapy: Provide speech and language therapy to minimize the impact of communication disorders on student success.
  • Research: Investigate resources and methods to determine appropriate approaches for addressing students' needs.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Education: Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • Experience: Job-related experience within a specialized field is required.
  • Skills: Proficiency in using assessment instruments, specialized equipment, and standard office software; ability to maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge: Understanding of speech and hearing mechanisms, therapy principles, and relevant codes, policies, and regulations.
  • Abilities: Ability to manage data, adapt to changing priorities, communicate with diverse groups, and solve problems independently.
  • Physical Demands: Some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some stooping, kneeling, and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally requires 60% sitting, 20% walking, and 20% standing. Performed under conditions with exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
