MO-SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital – Nursing Float (Regular, Full‑Time, 36 Hours per Week)

Job Highlights

    Nursing Float to various units within the hospital (2S, 3S, 4N, TCU, orient to NICU and ED then finally to PICU)
  • One‑year licensed RN experience required
  • Schedule:

    Full‑Time, Variable Shifts, 36 hours per week
  • Shift differentials available for nights and weekends
  • Location:

    SSM Health Cardinal Glennon Children’s Hospital
  • Sign‑on bonus available for qualified external applicants, subject to a required two‑year service commitment
Job Summary

Provides direct nursing care in accordance with established policies, procedures, and protocols of the healthcare organization.

Job Responsibilities
  • Uses standards of medical‑surgical nursing practice to increase quality of care and quality of life for the patient, family, and significant others by systematically evaluating the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice.
  • Establishes effective relationships and advocates with the patient, family, and significant others to facilitate development of a unique care plan tailored to the patient’s needs.
  • Uses the nursing process to develop and implement the plan of care, collect assessment data for each patient, determine appropriate nursing diagnoses, identify expected patient outcomes, implement interventions, and evaluate outcomes.
  • Develops assessment and management strategies based on a consideration of the physical, functional, cultural, social, economic, developmental, spiritual, vocational, and leisure dimensions of human responses to actual and potential health problems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the impact of illness and each patient’s status across multiple dimensions.
  • Utilizes leadership skills by coordinating and collaborating with the patient, family, community, and interprofessional team in assessing needs, setting goals, planning interventions, providing care, and evaluating outcomes.
  • Utilizes effective communication to participate with the patient, family, significant others, and other health care providers in collaborative decision‑making that reflects culturally sensitive, ethical, legal, holistic, informed, compassionate, and humane care within available resources.
  • Educates the patient, family, and significant others about measures that promote, maintain, and restore health or promote comfort.
  • Fosters a healthy work environment by serving as a mentor and role model for nursing colleagues, students, and others.
  • Applies evidence‑based practice and scientific knowledge to medical‑surgical nursing practice, ensuring care is delivered based on age‑specific and clinical needs.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safety.
  • May perform point‑of‑care testing according to policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Qualifications
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing or equivalent education for licensing.
  • One‑year licensed registered nurse experience.
Physical Requirements
  • Constant use of speech for oral communication.
  • Constant standing and walking.
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0‑25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, reaching, and keyboard use/data entry.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for near and far distances, and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of smell to detect/recognize odors.
  • Frequent use of hearing to receive oral communication, distinguish body sounds, and hear alarms or equipment.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25‑50 lbs.
  • Occasional lifting/moving of patients.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting, gripping and repetitive foot/leg/hand/arm movements.
  • Occasional driving.
  • Rare crawling and running.
Required Professional License and Certifications
  • Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS HCP) – American Heart Association (AHA).
  • Registered Nurse (RN) – Missouri Division of Professional Registration.
  • Or Registered Nurse (RN) issued by a Compact State.
