Role Purpose

The critical care nurse practitioner is a healthcare provider who works collaboratively within a multidisciplinary health team to provide comprehensive care to patients and families in critical care settings. They possess a high level of clinical expertise in dealing with patients with acute and chronic illnesses commonly encountered in the critical care setting. The nurse practitioner demonstrates advanced clinical knowledge, communication, interdisciplinary collaboration, professionalism, and systems‑based practice.

They work with administration staff, nurses, physicians, med/surg trainees, and other staff to ensure safe, effective, high‑quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Provides compassionate, appropriate, and effective patient and family‑centered care for health recovery, illness prevention, treatment of critically ill, or end‑of‑life care.
  • Communicates and collaborates effectively with patients, families, physicians, medical/surgical trainees, and other health professionals.
  • Demonstrates the highest level of accountability for professional practice by participating in professional development, quality initiative/performance activities, and implementing standards of care within area of specialization.
  • Responsible for assessment, diagnosis, treatment, management, education, health promotion, and care coordination for critically ill patients and families with acute health needs.
  • BJC has determined this is a safety‑sensitive position. The ability to work in a constant state of alertness and in a safe manner is an essential function of this job.
Minimum Requirements

    Master’s Degree in Nursing
