Overview
Mercy is seeking a skilled RN for our Cardiac Intermediate Unit (4A) on the night shift. In this role, you will provide evidence-based care to patients with complex cardiac conditions, closely monitor vital signs and telemetry, administer medications, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to optimize outcomes. You will educate patients and families, support safe transitions of care, and contribute to quality and safety initiatives.

- Provide direct nursing care to cardiac intermediate care patients on unit 4A during night shifts.
- Perform comprehensive and focused cardiac assessments, monitor vital signs, and recognize and respond to changes in patient condition.
- Manage and interpret cardiac telemetry monitoring and report significant rhythm changes in a timely manner.
- Administer medications, including cardiac and high‑risk medications, following hospital policies and safety protocols.
- Initiate, monitor, and maintain IV therapies and central lines as appropriate.
- Provide post‑operative and medical management for patients recovering from cardiac procedures or acute events.
- Document all assessments, interventions, and patient responses accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Educate patients and families on cardiac conditions, medications, lifestyle modifications, and discharge instructions.
- Collaborate with physicians, advanced practice providers, pharmacists, therapists, and ancillary staff to coordinate comprehensive care plans.
- Promote and maintain a safe environment, including infection prevention, fall prevention, and safe patient handling practices.
- Participate in hand‑off communication and interdisciplinary rounds to ensure continuity of care across shifts.
- Engage in unit‑based quality improvement initiatives, evidence‑based practice, and professional development activities.
- Support Mercy’s mission and values by providing compassionate, culturally sensitive, and respectful care to all patients.
- Cardiac telemetry monitoring
- Intermediate cardiac care nursing
- Administration of cardiac medications (e.g., antiarrhythmics, anticoagulants)
- IV insertion and management
- Central line care and maintenance
- Wound care and post‑operative care for cardiac patients
- Cardiac rhythm interpretation (basic EKG recognition)
- Patient assessment and care planning
- Electronic Medical Record (EMR) documentation
- Medication administration and reconciliation
- Patient and family education on cardiac conditions and recovery
- Care coordination with interdisciplinary team
- Safe patient handling and mobility assistance

- Basic life support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Time management and prioritization in acute care

- Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in state of practice.
- BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.

- Previous telemetry or step‑down/intermediate care experience preferred.
- Certification in Progressive Care Nursing (PCCN) preferred, not required.
- Ability to work night shifts, weekends, and holidays as scheduled.
