STAFF AID II – LAND SURVEYING ASSISTANT Extra Help
The County of Orange Geomatics / Land Surveyor Division has immediate openings for Staff Aid II Land Surveying Assistant positions. These are short‑term assignments assisting field and office personnel on a variety of surveying projects. Some positions involve physical activity such as carrying equipment, driving stakes, and clearing brush. Candidates will receive training and exposure to modern land surveying instruments and practices.

- High school graduate or college student with an aptitude in mathematics.
- Introductory surveying coursework or relevant experience.
- Computer drafting experience is a plus.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Mathematical aptitude and ability to research information and prepare reports.
- Experience with Microsoft Office Suite.
- Reliable and able to work independently.
- Organizing, filing, and maintaining office records.
- Using computers for data entry and documentation.
- Applying the principles of surveying.
- Assisting field crews by carrying equipment, driving stakes, and clearing brush.

Selected assistants must be available to work forty (40) hours per week, beginning as soon as possible after May 1, 2008 and continuing through August 28, 2008, and beyond that date if possible. The work schedule may consist of either a 4/10 or 9/80 schedule. Some weekend or evening hours may be required. Part‑time and flexible hours can be accommodated.
Physical Conditions- Vision sufficient to read standard text, a computer monitor, and to drive.
- Sound hearing and speech for clear communication.
- Independent mobility to stand, walk, stoop, bend, and sit for prolonged periods up to 90 minutes.
- Manual dexterity for keyboard, writing, filing, and driving.
- Body strength sufficient to lift and carry files or boxes up to 25 pounds.
- Interaction with the public in sometimes emotional or hostile situations.
- Work in an office environment, drive to community sites, and attend meetings.
- May be required to work evenings and/or weekends; work with changing deadlines and competing priorities.
